Internet Movie Trailer Settings?

Hey guys,

I'm looking for the best quicktime export settings to put my films onto my webpage. Does anyone know the exact export settings used in online movie trailers? Or just anything that you guys use?

I typically use Sorenson 3 compression when using Quicktime. It takes a while to compress but brings the file down to a manageable size.

I export with h.264 and set the quality to high. It brings down the file size greatly but stays the same size and doesn't hardly do anything to the qaulity.

what is Sorenson 3 compression?? and how do i get it? I exported using H.264.. the exported file is massive.... i'm takling 6 minute clip. what's the best export settings??

What program are you using, and what codec / aspect ratio / and frame size is your original footage?

I have some awesome presets I've made for compressor I can share.

I spent a few years working for an internet paintball company messing around till I got some rad results.

Check out my flash, and quicktime 240P 480P and 720P presets.

- My REELS
- A PAINTBALL TV SHOW
- ALL THE ADS AND MINI MOVIES I DID FOR THE COMPANY

I also have done a few large 35mm film trailers, but I can't disclose them here.

My source footage for the links was 720P DVCPRO HD. I can share the settings or apple droplets if they're what you are looking for. I like the 480P the best.

I'm assuming your using Mac? Not sure. Here is how I access it through Final Cut.

> file
> export
>using Quicktime conversion
>options
>settings
>Sorenson 3 video

At this point just select what level quality you want under the compresor box. I always go "best". The quality is decent, not quite as good as h.264 but very close and it produces a much smaller file. I compressed 4 minutes of DV at around 5 gigs, down to 181mb using this. With h.264 it came out close to 400mb.

Obviously it all depends on what other output options you throw into the mix but overall Sorenson makes the file more manageable.

wow.. nice reel greg.. you have some nice equipment i assume. =P

thanks pana-man, i'm trying out the sorenson 3 right now, in the process of exporting.

But greg, i love your 480p settings!

Greg, your reel is beautiful!! I am interested in you 720p presets for compressor..

Thanks!

h264 is light years ahead of Sorensen 3. Both in quality, and file size.

Head over to the Apple page of Hollywood movie trailers. Download a few both in small sizes and in HD and open them in quicktime. Then look at the inspector. That will tell you what codec they used and the bitrate.
