Hey guys, my website, fiveminutefilms.com is looking to purchase (2) cameras for a new project. I am needing help in deciding what it right for my needs. We are producing a 100-120 minute documentary/action sports film about street bike stunt riders. We will film night and low light ( warehouse ) scenes as well as day scenes. We have some lighting equipment, 2400w tungsten and 4 panel flourescents. The camera will be used by hand and attached to a variety of rigs ie. steadi cams, tripods etc. I have a budget of $3,000 - $7000 per uinit. Have any of you had prior experience with these cameras below? Please give your imput as to what you think will suit my needs and be a better investment.

I have considered the following:

Sony HDR-AX2000
Sony HXR-NX5U
Sony HVR-Z5U

Canon XF300

Panasonic HPX250

Thank you

If "stunt" is your selling point, I think you'll most likely have to get either a durable or a disposable camera suitable for capturing stunt shots in very close range and/or from a challenging angle, and/or a camera that can shoot at very high frame rate. As for everything else, I guess you just need to figure out all the requirements to narrow down your selection, and pick 1 or 2 usable cameras you and/or others like best.

I spent a while studying Sony HXR-NX5U versus Ag-AC160. I find it a bit strange that you would be comparing Sony HXR-NX5U to Panasonic HPX250. The 250 is quite similar to the 160 (now 160A). The NX5U and 160A both use SDHC cards whereas the 250 uses P2 cards. The 250 costs more and the run time cost is more as well. For the racing, I suspect you might find VFR useful. I did not see that listed in the HXR-NX5U spec sheets.
