T2i Help Choosing between 2 Wide Primes

HI

I need some help deciding between two lenses. I do alot of video promos in clubs (VERY low light). I have been using the Canon 50mm 1.8 so far but its not wide enough on the T2i. I find myself having to back up to get certain shots. I'm looking to get something that is a bit wider, but will still be good in low light.

My two choices are the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and the Sigma 20mm 1.8. I'm torn between these two lenses.

30mm: I like the fact that it goes down to 1.4. This means I can probably get crisp video at 1.8. My concern is that it may not be wide enough either and I'd still have to get far back to get my shots.

20mm: No big dislikes with this one. Just the fact that the 30mm goes down to 1.4 so it is better in low light.

I really am leaning toward getting the 30mm because of the aperture, I just really want to be sure it will be wide enough. Any of you use either of these lenses? Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I have the 24mm f/1.8 EX DG Macro for Nikon mount and I really like it. However, on my GH1 it comes out to 48mm FFE, the same as the 30mm will on your T2i...not exactly wide. I'd advise you to get the 20mm if you're looking for a wide angle.

Thanks. Well I guess I kinda mis-stated a bit in my original post. I don't necessarily need a wide angle lens...more like a "regular" lens. My 50mm is too "tele". For regular shots when ppl are right in front of me I have to back up too much to get them.

So would you say that the 24 on your GH1 (equivalent to a 30mm on T2i?) is good for a "regular" lens in terms of being not too long/not too wide?

Sorry if this is confusing lol.

The sigma 30 1.4 is a very good "normal" lens on the T2i and works for a variety of shots. Canon also makes a 28mm 1.8 which also covers full frame. That is a nice plus. I would worry too much about the difference between 1.4 and 1.8. I was seriously looking at the canon 28 when I found a deal on the sigma and went for it. 20mm is starting to get pretty wide, and personally I prefer to cover the wide end with fast zooms (canon 17-55 2.8 IS and Tokina 11-16 2.8).

I have both of those lens and the 30mm is sharper and brighter wide open, but the 20mm has killer macro, probably not useful for what you are doing, the 30mm focus ring is not as smooth as the 20mm, you can check out the 30mm here, http://www.vimeo.com/15175865 all of the shots were with the 30mm except for the straight on shot of the singer, that was with the 85mm Rokinon F1.4, all shots were wide open.

Very nice. It definitely looks good. For the most part were you at a reasonable distance from your subject in the shots? Did you find yourself backing up to get the shot framed properly? I really think I'm leaning toward the 30.

Thanks. Yeah I think I have the Wide end covered with the Tokina.
