Hello. I have a DVX 100b. I am using Windows XP svc pk 2. I am trying to capture video with Windows Movie Maker via firewire connection. Windows Movie Maker does not recognize my connected DVX 100b. Is there a problem with Movie Maker? I know the firewire port works because I have other devices that use it just fine.

If Windows Movie Maker is no good for capturing 100b, any other inexpensive programs that will do it?

Thanks!

I was looking for a real simple solution online as far as free video capture programs. None are real easy. You can download avid dv free, or premiere pro or sony vegas demos. You can also scour the internet for a free capture program. They are out there.

Hmm, see if you can find a copy of AvidDV Free. There may still be some links floating around. Or just get a more expensive editor for less on ebay.

VirtualDub

VirtualDub

You might try VirtualDub, it is free. I use it mostly to extract audio from captured files but it will also capture AVIs. For somewhat low cost, I have found the $99 Adobe Premiere Elements (now version 4) NLE to be very good overall including capturing.

Ya, I have the same problem, but I have a DVX100A and Premiere elements 3.
Also, I have two different computers both running PE3, and nether work.
I will switch to VCR for capture, then it will show up momentarily with a blank blue screen, but then say that a device is not connected. Its killing me because I really need to clear of some tapes and I have no idea how to now. I have reinstalled PE3 at least 2 times on each.

I recently captured my DVX100B footage in Windows Movie Maker via Firewire. I had no problem what so ever with the capturing. The only real problem I faced was that captured video cannot be imported into Premiere Pro 1.5. I then had to repeat the process of capturing again for Premiere Pro 1.5. Also, it takes roughly 5min/GB .avi :D

Sometimes, restarting the computer works for me and then the DVX is "seen".

Also a couple of times switching around the firewire worked (ie plug the end thats in your camera into the computer and the end thats in the computer into your camera).
