Heath Ledger Dead

Please explain? You might not want to be an actor or famous, I get that. But celebs (and I use the term loosely. I'm considering notable directors, writers, etc.) they are at the pinnacle of this industry. You do not wish you were at the pinnacle of this industry, picking and choosing your projects and calling your own shots? If not, then I envy YOU!

All in good time. The fact that I am heading somewhere I haven't yet arrived, doesn't leave me envious of the people who are already there.

I've got to agree with Max and Devon - I'm happy with the path I'm on. New oppurtunities are popping up all the time and I have the freedom to do what I want to do alot of the time. I enjoy improving and learning and honing my craft and being able to see how far I've come. Being at the top means you cant get any better. That doesnt seem like a good place to be at all.

eta - I don't want to get to the top until I'm 85. THen I'll be content to sit on the beach for a few years after that.

Fair enough. The word 'envy' has a negative connotation...like you are not happy right where you are. Wrong word. I probably should have said "admire"!

Sure. There are plenty of people whose abilities and success I admire.

Of course, there are also hopeless losers whom I sort of admire, just for their willingness to keep getting up in the morning...

lol.

I have a cousin like that. He keeps getting fired. But instead of taking government hand outs...keeps getting up, going out there, finds his next job only to get fired again. Kinda like Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke...just keeps getting up no matter the odds. Admirable, but sad really..............................last year he had 13 W2 forms...

Umm, ahh, sorry for the thread jack...

Precisely.

That doesnt make it any better. There is nothing about Heath's life I envy and just a few things I admire. I admire his talent, I dont admire or envy his position. Nor do I aspire to be him or be in his position. This does not mean I do not have aspirations nor that those aspirations are low level.

I would like to have Britney Spear's money, but I neither admire her nor envy her.

I do well and am working my way up. I will either get there nor not; but it all depends on me and my effort. I can't think of anything more silly than envying someone. And I understand you changed that to "admire", but admire is a completely different thing that I dont believe you meant in the first place.

Poor Terry Gilliam. I dont envy him, either. But I think this is a bad idea.

Christopher Plummer said:
"Terry's throwing himself into the job of trying to salvage the picture," ...Despite earlier reports that the director might shelve the $30 million production, Gilliam, whom Plummer describes as "terribly saddened" by Ledger’s death is "trying to work out at this moment how to continue on. Fortunately, because the film deals with magic, there is a way, perhaps, of turning Heath into other people and then, using stills and I think they call it CGI…"Terry was a very good friend [of Heath's]," adds Plummer. "He very wants to go on with the movie, and I can very much understand why. Because he wants to dedicate it to Heath, of course."

Poor terry gilliam, that guy has the worst luck of anyone ever....

How many of his movies have had horrible **** happen while filming.

Poor ****ing guy......****.....

No. The word you meant was "envy".

It's ok. Dont fight it.

Bud, you are splitting hairs. You mean to tell me that there is nobody in the entire world that has any thing or any quality that you desire? Even in some small, non-jealous, and non-green way? Whether it be a certain kind of success, or fame, or wealth, or charm, or looks, or a particular woman or the ability to sing or play an instrument, be able to dance or somebody who has the job for which you’ve set your current goals on…? NOBODY? You covet nothing that someone else has? Unless you are Ghandi or Mother Theresa, I find that incredibly hard to believe.

I'll admit that the knee-jerk definition to envy is usually associated to negative thoughts or ill-will but at the end of the day, it just means " desire for some advantage, quality, etc. that another has". There has got to be a part of you that understands what I mean.

It's okay. Don't fight it.

No.

I am not yet where I aspire to be, but I envy no one. Like I mentioned above, I wouldnt mind having Britney's money, or Steve Vai's guitar abilities, or Heath's acting abilities. But I have never, for even a mili-second, dwelled on the fact that they have those things and I dont. While I wouldn't mind driving a MBZ SLR McLaren, I have never once envyed those driving them. I will either get to the point that I can buy one, or I wont. It's no big deal. I do, however, look at Paris Hilton getting pulled over in one and shake my head. I do not envy, admire, and lest of all, RESPECT her. I spend ZERO time dwelling on what others have or the position they are in.

I've just read that Jake Gyllenhaal just walked out the set of "Brothers" in the middle of shooting because he is so devastaded by this losss.

Just how do they determine it was accidental if he had enough chemicals in his body to kill him? How do they KNOW he didn't try and kill himself?

Because he would have had to have known that the mix of prescription and over the counter sleeping pills he purchased were dangerous. If he didn't know that... it was an accident. He probably didn't. Chances are he didn't check with the pharmacist.

From CNN: Heath Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription medications including painkillers, anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills, the New York City medical examiner's office said Tuesday.

"Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine," the office said in a short statement.
"We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications."

He was on a hell of a lot of drugs for a young man of his age though.
