Headphone Songs

there are some songs that just sound better thru headphones. OR, they make you think more thru headphones. i listen to music in my headphones almost every night after my wife goes to bed, and there are certain songs that just hit me harder at close range than from the living room speakers...

btw...don't make this a thread about my wife always goin to bed alone. we're just peachy, thanks.:Drogar-Mark-08(DBG)

for instance..."Song to the Siren" by Robert Plant (his version of it, that is)...doesn't play well to an audience over loudspeakers, but in headphones, to me...it's unreal.

"23" by Jimmy Eat World is another fave of mine....we all have them...oh, and th entire album "Shout at the Devil" by Motley Crue.....man i'll be contributing to this is it catches on haha

movie soundtracks are a given, so no point in mentioning those, since they're personal, and subject to the opinions of poeple who may potentially hate a mentioned movie. (keeping it more about music than movies).

so i have my own examples, what about you?

This is a great thread topic! I know exactly what you mean...

BTW... for anybody wanting to kick their headphone experience into a new dimension (for music listening)... I humbly suggest:

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro for economy choice... wait for a sale and you can get them for less then $80. Character is balanced sound across the board... no strong or weak points in the spectrum, a solid "7" performance (in comparison to calling either of the following a "9.5")

Denon AH-D2000 for closed-can, ultra-slam-satisfying bass... a great sounding 'phone from a company that many audiophiles and non-audiophiles alike... would never consider for cans. Read up on 'em... these cans are bass-fat (not bloated, just solid)... for people who know they like really solid bass. These are gonna' run around $180, when you can get 'em for that.

Sennheiser HD-600 for open-air, ultra-comfort, ultra-detail with a fantastic balance, but nowhere near the "slam" of the Denons. These are my favorite cans for critical, or leisure listening. They're so comfortable that you will find yourself finishing some music as you get distracted by something else... and then 10 minutes later you realize you still have on headphones and no music playing! If you get goosebumps from strings, then these are the cans for you. The price on these varies WILDLY... plan to watch them for a month unless you want to pay over $300. (I think I've seen 'em below $250 in the past year.)

I like to let people listen to the HD-280 (gave my most recent pair to a friend with cancer)... and then have them start the same song through the HD-600. Everybody thinks the HD-280 can't sound any better... and the HD-600 creates "instant audiophiles". :)

Oh yeah... sorry... back on topic... I need to update my ipod with some new music, but a couple that come to mind are Allison Road, Bittersweet, live John Mayer, Foo Fighters... and I actually enjoy some Tenacious D for JB's rapid fire articulation.

Pink Floyd....any Pink Floyd.
My favorite, "Welcome to the Machine" and all of the album "Animals".

^^^^^ What he said.

Not headphone related, but I was sitting in a bar a few weeks ago and Welcome to the Machine came on the radio, damn, it sounded good.

I used to listen to all my Rush LP's on headphones when I was a kid. Side 2 of Moving Pictures.

The Beatles' "Revolution 9" and Cornelius' "Drop" are two that I can think of right now that are definitely better heard on headphones.

Sony MDR 7506's here. Listen to headphones at my desk all the time. You just get into music more I find.

"The Yes Album" by Yes (duh!), but especially "Starship Troopers." (Was partially mixed on headphones, so it makes sense.)

"Journey to the Center of the Eye" - Nektar. Kind of obscure, but in the best of early space/prog-rock tradition.

"Heros" - David Bowie

"Days of Future Past" - Moody Blues

yeah...the classics are great, the Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Beatles, Doors, etc....i just never know what mood i'll be in, so this list it somewhat alphabetical, but in no particular order of songs i listen to on a given night, but they all sound incredible to me in headphones.

btw i'm using the Sony MDR-V6 cans. nothing special, but they fit right and sound choice.
