Headed to Vancouver -- what to do?

Headed to Vancouver next Thursday (Sept. 24) for 10 days to shoot two spots for Interstate Batteries (I'm the writer). Should be an awesome time, especially doing one spot that involves icing down a street (that's all I can say for now).

I'll have some down time the first weekend since we're flying in for Friday callbacks and then having the final pre-pro on Monday -- the shoot is Thurs, Fri, Sat. So, any suggestions for what to do over the weekend? My art director partner has shot there several times, but I don't think he's been for a few years.

Track down Dr. Grant Roberts to help solve environmental issues in another exciting installment of "Danger Bay."

i live in vancouver. there's a million places i could recommend but it depends what you like. you want to know tourist attractions? go to Whistler, where the 2010 olympics will be held. lots of good clubs, shopping, gondala rides beautiful mountains etc....

Wait, you mean Vancouver, BC, right? ;)

Learn to say "eh?" a lot?

I hear it's a lot like the US but ............. more Canadian.

go to Cannabis Headquarters and smoke a volcano with Marc Emery.

I think Marc Emery is on his way to a US federal pound me in the ass prison.

Is the shoot downtown?

There lots to do here.....I guess what type of stuff would you be looking to do?

Don't have our locations locked down just yet (director is walking the options today).

I think we might head up Whistler one day. Otherwise, just wondering if there are any must-do things or super-cool places to eat. I'll definitely check out vancouverisawesome.com -- thanks!

And on learning to say "eh," I was surprised how many actors didn't at least attempt a flat American midwest accent knowing that it's a US spot. Ha!

Yeah I'd definitely recommend the sea to sky drive up to whistler. On a clear day, that's about the most beautiful drive you could ask for. Plus all the granite in squamish is a nice sight.

Once there take the gondola up whistler and peep the views.

oh yeah, Marc Emery is going to jail soon. but I think not for a few weeks... ;)

hmmmm what else.... good shopping on Robson Street downtown, or at Metrotown in Burnaby (really huge mall)...

The Vancouver Aquarium, famous for those two otters holding hands (youtube it)... the Zoo, altho I personally have never been...

Kitsilano beach.. Jericho Beach... English Bay... Stanley Park. (the aquarium is also located at stanley park)..

Science world... night life on Granville St downtown...

Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Van...

Take a walk down East Hasting street....thats a must for any visitor....thats if wanna see a bunch of wigged out herion addicts.....it's a pretty crazy expierence the first time you do it...

Correct that.

Take a DRIVE down east hasting :D

Check into an East Hastings hotel! They'll carry your bags and try to sell you steaks stolen from supermarkets!

Actually the Producers of Capote, Push and Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus have offices and a theatre near Hastings & Main:

Or watch Jon Cassar and others shooting Fringe...looks like they used the Art Gallery as Congress on S2 E1, but tight shots and shallow DOF to hide Vancouver.

I recommend going to do the zip lines on grouse mountain in North Vancouver, Capilano suspension bridge and you can definitely walk down hastings, its not a violent place, but its eye opening. You could also go to a movie at the rio, on friday night they have midnight double feature for 10 bucks. I think I might do that tonight actually.

I know there are a couple of major productions up there right now -- it'd be nice to stumble upon one. We're staying at the Loden, which looks like it may even be nice enough for Hollywood types. :)

Currently filming here:

Hmmm. Very slow production due to high dollar, no tax breaks and recession.

Yet still cheaper for us than LA. Hmmm. Actually, I think most of the difference was in talent costs. I'd rather use union, to be honest, but I'm neither the producer nor the big-check-writing client.
