HDV Compression, Can you really tell?

Right; if possible you'd want to edit in HD from the beginning, and master out an SD version for today. Then when it's time to make an HD version all the work is already done; you just master out an HD version.

If you use CineForm or Apple Intermediate Codec, it should be about as easy to edit HD as it was to edit SD (depending on how modern your computer is).
 
Sorry, Barry (and jade 8472) - I didn't see your response until after my last post. Okay, good to know that that's the best workflow. I'm working on a G5 (need to upgrade my RAM in any event) with a 750gb firewire drive. Think that will handle it?
