GH2 HDR video

after see magic lantern hdr video working i got this idea

a future version of gh2 (maybe GH4) could have two iso in same image to build a hdr stream

half pixels at iso 100, half pixels at iso 800 and merge two video streams into one hdr video

same shutter speed, same fps, same lens aperture, a perfect hdr solution

customizable two iso selection for user to get hdr video

magic lantern use one frame at iso 100 and another frame at iso 800, but a better hdr video will use same frame half pixels at iso 100 and half pixels at iso 800 (or another iso selected by user)

Canon cameras have the HIGHLIGHT TONE PRIORITY function, it works by setting a different iso for highlights. what we need manufacturers implement is this same function but with an option to chose 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 fstops diference.

Just give RAW HDMI output... simple solution

think about indie filmmakers with no money to buy a external recorder, working alone, no car for transport, on bus, subway, need less weight, less things to transport, so just a small led light to fill shadows, hdr on camera would improve a lot the image quality

also some productions needs a fast delivery to broadcast or projection, so hdr straigh from camera without post production would be nice.

and i do not believe hdmi raw could to a 5 fstops improvement in highlights hdr could do.

Yes, and no. HDR output would be fantastic, dont get me wrong. And in all honesty, I think an HDR "hack/Mod" would be closer to happening rather then RAW somehow being enabled.... But lets stick the the realm of newly released cameras and manufacture enabled camera improvements... i.e. GH3 and upcoming releases.

Just RAW WOULD allow something close to HDR in post, not to mention probably 4:2:2, or even 4:4:4 color as well as providing a significantly more "valuable" tool then a simple HDR solution.
RAW to HDMI was a suggestion, as im sure the shear data output from any of these cameras would just kill a simple 32 or 64Gig card. And HDMI recorders are getting cheaper and easier to deal with by the day.
I am a budget shooter, a cant afford to buy premium gear, ill ride the bus if a job is close, I travel light, I have a 1000 lumen chinese LED light, I use mostly vintage Nikon lenses (They look better, but also are a heck of a lot cheaper then m4/3rd lenses)

Sure HDR is cool, it allows a lot more usable video in harsh lighting conditions. But I think RAW would change the entire playing field, and unlock more creativity potential.
Look at photo cameras today, loads of pocket "consumer" cameras will do HDR... but anything regarded as Semi-Pro and higher HAS to offer RAW... There is a reason for that in the photo world, and I think the same principle applies to video.

Also, could you imagine the amount of horrible video coming out, because people think the built in HDR looks "different and cool"? Imagine a wedding shot in HDR!...OMG!

There are many ways to merge a dual exposure hdr video. What i am talking about is not that "cartoon look" hdr, what i am talking here is a natural looking hdr, just a shadow/highlight preservation. the new 5D MARK III have some different ways to merge a HDR photo, one of them is a NATURAL merge, wich keeps the image looking the same, just improving highlights and shadow details. the HDR i am talking about is just a dynamic hange improvement using two different exposures in two video streams from the same sensor with different ISO for adjacent pixels or different iso for highlight sensor area. the hdr i am talking about is the same image, but with more details in highlights. if you search for the new hdr videos from canon cameras done with the new magic lantern firmware on vimeo you will understand.

You aren't going to get a red/alexa/cinema cam for $800. Period. You're not even going to get 10bit 422 with a domestic camera that sells for this amount - EVER.
