HDMI output

Does the HDMI output on the t2i, 60d, 7d, crop the picture similar to the 5dm2 output? I understand the issues with the SD in record mode except on the 7d, but while in standby the 5dm2 crops the hdmi signal on output. I'm wondering if the aps-c cameras have this same issue? Thanks!

My 2ti has an HD output while on standby, I think it might be 1080i - not too sure. You can't use it with an external recorder though because of the focus box and crop bars.

Thanks for the reply Kyle. These issues cannot be correct, with Magic Lantern? I am thinking the crop is still there, but I wasn't sure and wanted to verify this.

I am no guru, but my understanding is that the 7d is the only canon that outputs 1080 while recording, all the others downres to 480. I think the 7d does it only because it has a different sensor than the t2i, t3i, 60d(aps-c) and 5dm2(ff35). If memory serves me correct the 7d's sensor has 8 Somethings, while the others (t2i) has 4. not sure 'bout the 5d though.....

I doubt the others could be hacked to output 1080 though, seems like a hardware limitation IMO.

*edit: the Somethings are Readout channels.
Cheers

I never noticed any sort of crop on the standby output of both my 60D and t2i, but don't remember seeing it on the 5D either when I borrowed one a while back. I'm pretty sure the standby output is the same for all of the HDSLR Canons. From what I've read, the 7D and 1D output 720p during record because they have the dual digic 4 processors that allow the extra processing power, the 5D, 60D, and Rebels only have 1. Don't believe the sensor has anything to do with it, albeit the 7D has the same aps-c sensor as the t2i, t3i, and 60D.

I agree with almost everything you say.

My understanding was that the 7d does 1080i while recording, not 720p. Don't know about the 1d.

As for crop, sadly there is a story here. See this guide: http://videos.smallhd.com/the-truth-about-canon-dslr-output-signals/
