HDMI out, no worky??

I have to use a hdmi cable which is plugged in from the HDMI out on the fs700 and into a 19 inch tv for monitoring the shots.
I put a "HDMI reducer" thingy on the cable then tried to plug into the HDMI out on the 7Q. (from full size hdmi to the size on the 7q) TV says "no signal".
Looked it up in the manual and it says that HDMI out should always be active. Am I missing something obvious?

You may need to set the HDMI output of the FS700 to 60i rather than 30p. I had that issue with a TV monitor and after changing the output to interlaced it solved it for me. This doesn't affect the internal recording.

I hooked it up to the fs700 hdmi out, It shows on the tv screen as 1080P and shows fine.

I hooked it up to my dslr with the shrinker adapter, It shows on the tv as 1080i and also plays fine.

I hook it up to the 7Q with the shrinker adapter, no signal.

I have similar issues with most of the other monitors I try to hook up to the 7Q. (basic pass through setup)

On two of them I get "out of range", two others I just get nothing. When checking the output settings on the 7Q, it says 1080P 23.98 4:2:2 (when shooting 4K RAW at 23.98) I don't think this is necessarily a failure of the Odyssey though. More often a limitation of the monitor I'm hooking up to it.

I generally find it frustrating with most small (cough) inexpensive (cough) monitors. They only support a select few frame rates / frequencies / color space. If you're out of any of them, you get nothing.

My 7" Marshall only displays broadcast signals. 25 or 29.97. I suspect my other 9" monitor does the same. They work on my BMCC when outputting clean 25/29.97, but won't work if I turn overlays on. They won't work at all with the 7Q, even when the FS700 is set to 29.97. I can get them to work with the FS700 directly though. So I'm not sure where that breakdown is then.

I was hoping to use a 27" computer LCD as a directors monitor, using it's HDMI input...but it too will only display a specific signal.

My old Panasonic 42" Plasma works will everything though! Too bad it weighs 75 lbs:grin:

To be clear, are you saying that you are trying to pass the signal through the Odyssey7Q to another monitor and the output of the Odyssey cannot be seen by the other monitor? Try going to the INPUT/OUTPUT menu (that's the one you get when you tap the box in the Upper Tool Bar that says something like 1080p 29.97). It will always come up with the INPUTS highlighted but you need to switch over to OUTPUTS (just tap on the word in the top or bottom section). In the lower section, there is a control that reads something like Turn PSF On (I'm on vacuum and don't have an Odyssey with me). Switch this to ON. This is switching the output from True Progressive (P) to Progressive Segmented Frames (PSF). Most monitors, switchers, etc. will read sf as if it was interlace video. This may solve your issue.

If it doesn't, please contact cdsupport@convergent-design.com for proper assistance.

Thanks Mitch

This option is grayed out in all of the recording input methods I use. It only became selectable when my input was HD to HD Prores. (restarting in prores mode) That is the only time I could select this option, and yes, it did work perfectly once I could select it. The manual states this feature works "in select modes". Is this limited to HD inputs?

I hope it's not a limitation, I need to record 4K raw or 4K2HD. This is 99% of my 7Q use. I need to shoot 4K and output HD to a client's monitor or focus puller monitor.

I understand if it is. The 7Q is doing a lot of grunt work already when taking in 4K material, but I would rather spend $$$ on more CD SSDs than a $1K monitor.

I noticed mine was grayed out also. I did hook up my IKAN d7w to the hdmi out of the 7q and it worked fine, so the limitation seems to be my cheapo 17 inch TV not accepting whatever signal comes out of the 7Q.
(I tested in 30p and 24P and neither one gets displayed on the 17 inch tv but both work on my IKAN monitor, which is weird because the HDMI out from the FS700 works in both modes on the TV, but not the 7q???)

So much for having a decent size client monitor...
