I'm looking to upgrade my monitoring situation - primarily for editing, but something useful for shooting would be a plus.
A secondary concern is recording HDMI to disk for keying (which for me has been studio-only so I don't necessarily need the cost of a free-standing recorder vs. recording into a Mac Pro). And I'm looking for a lot of bang for the buck. The contenders I've considered:
A decent 1080 LCD TV in the 20-30" range for now, $300-$400 (any specs for these that are critical?) - along with either:
Blackmagic intensity: PCIe, HDMI in & out, plays nice with AE and FCP. $200.
Matrox mini: $450, same as above, but also can calibrate an HDMI monitor (reviewers seem happy with this ability) giving you a production monitor (or at least getting you close). Additionally, an extra $100 for a laptop interface suggesting that this could be used in the field as well.
I'm looking for now to stay under a grand, too much stuff to upgrade this season. Anyone using either product? Both have garnered a lot of great reviews - I'm liking the Matrox Mini so far - thanks!
