HDMI Atomos Ninja Hard Disk Recorder 795$

Hi,bgundu,
thanks for the replies, however I thought I would wait before the release of new firmware and after dell'atomos eventually decide to take an external monitor. I saw that the small DP6 HD is really great, someone uses it with a Panasonic AG HMC150/151?
thanks again

my first couple comments to ninja.
- shutting down is very unfriendly (i touch it and it appears as touched, disapears and so on so never know when the time to release the finger... will have to use on touching till everything fade black)
- when you are not recording there is a red dot icon to start record, OMG change it please?! we are used to see red dot when we record not when in paused mode! :-D everybody who looked into my ninja on shooting just noticed me that i am not shooting or shooting vice versa.
- when going to Canon 7d menu and back sometimes the resolution is very jerky like blured. (like 30% of today shooting, but quickly find the trick to correct it)

but seems like nice product, thanks Dave

if somebody intersted in test shots with best best hockey players in the world in dark/fogy/contrast atmospehere :-) shot by Canon 7D, let me know and ill upload them..... classic 7D CompactFlash record H264 vs ATOMOS PRORES HQ shot at 25fps 1/50 and 24fps 1/60 (packed by that ugly 60i wrapper).

Thanks for the comments on the Red record icon. I'll pass them to our design team. The rule with turning off is 4 seconds: just count it and you'll know when it's going to turn off (from the touchscreen or the "off" button on the right hand side as you look at the screen.)

UPS just delivered mine:) I'm charging the batteries. I plan on using this with my VG10 for some green-screen work (music videos). I've actually gotten some fairly usable shots from 17M AVCHD, so I am really excited about 4:2:2 :D I look forward to rev 2.0 of the firmware, however, it is better to be correct than released before it is ready. My 'day-job' is in software development so I understand completely.

P.S./FYI The 'trick' to getting a clean signal from the VG10 is to remove the memory card. If it sees a card it will show the red dot; also be sure to turn off power-saver mode.

I'm real happy with the VG10. I have a stable of Alpha lens that work great (the Tamron 200-500 looks a bit like a rocket launcher when mounted with the lens hood on:)). If you don't mind manual, like the 'old' days, it is hard to beat for the price. The 18-200 E-mount auto-focus lens works fine for everything I'd use auto-focus on anyway. I am not the least bit interested in 24fps. I use a Marshall V-LCD70XP-HDMI to monitor exposure and focus. I have a SmallHS splitter on order so I can use both the Ninja and Marshall at the same time. I hope to get out this weekend to take some comparison shots. I'll be sure to post back my results.

The band I am working with now has been like herding cats to setup video shoots (and that's just trying to get one at a time). I have one left to do and I plan on using the Ninja. Bottom line will be just how much easier is it to pull a good key from 4:2:2.
