HDD to MAC help!!

First time using the HVX-200. Actually had the conversation with the producer: "Holy Smoke, the technology actually worked the first time..!" because it seemed we were able to dumb the .mxf media off to both his PC laptop and my external HDD.

Spoke too soon! I can't get my G5 to recognize the HDD. It was formatted with the camera using the "format HDD" function, and the media should be there since we saw the copy progressing. What gives?

By the way, this is an old LaCie 75Gb firewire drive with FW 400. no problems reading it on this machine before.

Any ideas? Anyone had this problem? I am so glad we made a backup on the laptop, but I want to make this work too.

Thanks in advance!

Jesse

I think that you'd have to have it formatted as a FAT 32 to get both to work on PC and Macs... I personally like the USB enclosures for going back and forth as they just seem to work well right from the beginning without any formatting.. and they don't require power...

I think that this might be a bit of a problem... but hard to say. I know Barry has extensive info and insight on this.. as well as many other things..

As long though as your client got his stuff on his laptop, then you can always get it back off the other way...

Also, as a huge rule of thum with this camera... back up all of your footage to DVD. I had a big project one month into owning the HVX and my harddrive crashed and I lost 4 hours of IRL racing footage that looked so darn good... Just a little bit of advice from someone who was already burned by a drive

If you formatted the drive using the HVX, then it would in fact be using the FAT32 file system -- the Mac should be able to read and write that without any problem.

I'm not a Mac guy and don't know what would prevent it from recognizing or mounting a FAT32 drive.

Is the cable good?Try to use your disk utility and see what it says. It should see the disk, it may not mout it or recognize the formatting but it start there and try repair if it will let you.
