The HDSpark is a Grass Valley/Canopus product, and a while back they moved to a model where their I/O cards are only compatible with Edius (their own NLE) in an effort to persuade more people to work with Edius. They stopped Premiere support a few generations back (Premiere 2.0?)

Now Edius is a decent NLE, but it is limited. It is GREAT for quick and simple edits like event videography and such, but don't expect to have a fun time with it if you need to integrate with many third party effects plugins, After Effects, etc. It doesn't play well that way. They have a 30 day free trial on their website I believe.

If you need something for Premiere that can handle DSLR footage I'd suggest either the Matrox MXO2 Mini or an AJA product.
