HD DVD Players

Looks like Toshiba is releasing its first HD-DVD player the HD-A1, in March, with Best Buy taking pre orders, $500. Looks like 2006 really will be the year of HD.

I'll hold out for my Sony Blu-ray player also due out in 2006. Early price guesstimates put it at around $450. You may have heard of it. It's called PS3...

Luckily i just picked up a new Panasonic plasma complete with HDMI in anticipation of the new wave of HD players.

And i must say i highly recommend the new line of Panasonic Plasma's to anyone who is looking to upgrade their home entertainment theatre.

Right now, HD-DVD format has more titles slated for release, by 4 of the major studios/corporations,/conglomerates (out of 7) so we may see a big adoption of the HD DVD format over the Blu Ray, than again Pioneer is releasing a Blu-Ray burner for the PC/MAC in a month or so.

I prefer the Panasonic LCD projectors....100" viewing for $2,250 aint too bad.

I'll take my 50" plasma with clear crisp blacks. Not to mention the gaggle of games that will come with my Blu-ray PS3....I'm still into that thing. If anyone else is i'll meet you in some MGS4 online hopefully within a year.

The problem for me is that it requires a dark room, and the screen seems a little washed out with not much depth.

Is that your perception?

Purchased a Panasonic 50" as well, model TH-50PHD8UK, and all I can say is that there is not enough HD content to enjoy. In my opinion, this is good news for us because it means there is a need to provide content for the hardware that's already out.

Machinist, which model did you purchase?

Video games + Plasma TV = Burn-in and ghost images.

I'll stick with LCD until Plasma grows out of infancy...but, they are some nice screens.

I heard that Sony's first Blu-Ray DVD players (not including ps3) will cost double the price of Toshiba's.

This isn't a problem anymore for the latest generation of plasmas. Panasonic is on their 8th generation already. I've been enjoying HD cable, DVD upconverted to HD, and have been playing Xbox360 all without problem, not even any hint of image-retention, which is different from burn-in, but often confused as one and the same.
