HD-AVI files for editing in FCE

I know this doesn't make sense to the Apple faithful because it doesn't fit the thinking, but to people who aren't embedded in Apple workflow, it sure makes a lot of sense.

I use Apple products and have for years.

I also use Windows products and have for years.

Because we don't agree on pro res capabilities in a $199.00 NLE doesn't make me or anybody else part of the "Apple faithful," which I consider to be pejorative.

best, and I also sign out on this thread.

I am very sorry if you took offense to my statement. None intended but I can see how it could be taken that way.

I'm sending some of my old Super 8 film footage to a transfer house. They will put it on a hard drive in HD-AVI (motion jpeg) files. They assured me that I will not have a problem with Final Cut accepting the files.

I don't really know if I've ever worked with motion jpeg files or not. I've mostly been editing HDV footage from my Canon A1 in FCE4.

Does this transfer plan sound reasonable? I intend to edit some of the converted Super 8 footage as a project in itself, and I would also be dropping some of the files into sequences of HDV footage shot on my Canon A1 (usually 24F).

Any thoughts from the more file-savvy appreciated...

Right the same situation here. So, what was the final and correct answer? Did you manage to edit the hd-avi files with final cut?

Im just about to send my film in two weeks.

never did send off the film. couldn't decide if it was worth it. I'm still considering sending a few test reels there. If you do try it first, drop a line here and let me know how it worked out. (I did send a few test reels to a place in upstate New York that did an okay job sending me back standard def footage on mini-DV. But it was only okay-to-good. I don't think they had a very advanced telecine machine.)
