HD and SD on same MiniDV tape?

Hey all,
Until recently I have been unable to utilize the HD capabilities of my A1 (only had Premiere 6.5 - no HD), and therefore have been recording in SD. However, I was just able to upgrade to Premiere Pro CS4 and am now going to take advantage of HD, since for output, I can always downgrade. I want to do some initial tests in HD though, and have a MiniDV tape with some test footage in SD on it, but the tape is only half used. Can I use the same tape (use the rest of it from AFTER the SD recordings) and record in HD on it? I assume then I will have to tell Premiere to only import from after the SD footage?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, that would be fine. However you would have to fast forward to the portion of the tape with the HD footage and play it briefly so that the A1 switches to HDV playback mode or else Premiere would not recognize that an HD camera is plugged in.

Oh wow, really? I didn't know that would happen. But thanks so much for answering my question! I will be sure to take your suggestion and do that!
