HD, 24p, P2, but no distribution for me?

These cameras are all well and good, but when will I be able to distribute to 70% of my consumers on such a format? In the mean time, how cheap am I going to be able to get a DVX? Seems like at 6,000, Pany will still be able to get half that for a DVX. BOOOOOOOO! Oh, and the P2 workflow SUCKS for those of us filming on the mountains in winter, I would rather keep my 16mm Arri!

I have ZERO clue when consumers (cleints) will catch up in technology; I see no HD in my home in the near future. An HD-24p Filmout though? That's tasty.

I don't think the DVX will drop' at least that's the speculation I am seeing thrown around.

P2 in the Winter? Put a sweater on her. ;)

There should be 70% market penetration of HD players in US customer's homes somewhere around 2010 or later; definitely not earlier. It'll be much longer for Europe and other areas of the world where they don't even have HDTV sets.

Now, internet streaming, on the other hand, may be a more viable option in just a few years. Google Video just came on line, offering free hosting and free streaming. The internet's in, what, about 95% of US homes? I don't know what the market penetration for broadband is however.

And hey, P2 won't necessarily work for every shooting circumstance, so keep the Arri if you prefer. Although I can't see how film would be a more stable recording medium than solid-state ram; film will freeze.

Yes, the DVX will stay a current model in the lineup, and will probably fetch $3000 or more.

Apparently broadband penetration in the US is about 50% of internet users.

Of course. "broadband" is basicly anythign from 128kbps up, which is a little thin for HD streaming.
