Hc-x1000 ?

Anything that can help is appreciated, but i think i will just have to accept that this model does not record as much detail as other 4k cams/cameras
the difference here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z1gVPQVhW0 played on my large screen tv is a lot even the consumer 970M has more detail,so i dont think its just mine that lacks detail,i am surprised you never find a need for your GH4 now, filming shots that dont need panning ETC i would have thought the GH4 with a long lens with its 2x crop would produce good results.

I was a bit surprised to and thought something was wrong with the camera as well. However after changing some settings and finding the sweet spot of the lens I figured out what worked best for the camera. All zoom lenses have a trade off in terms of image quality especially one with the range of the HCX1000. All zoom lenses have a sweet spot in terms of sharpness in the center of the frame and also sharpness throughout the whole frame. Shoot a resolution chart at different focal lengths and apertures to figure out the sweet spot for your camera.

I don't have the camera anymore but I remember setting the detail to plus 3. I would recommend if possible to avoid shooting at F/1.8 shoot between F/2.0 and F/4 if you want the most detail from the footage. Remember zoom lenses have tradeoffs so if you keep this in mind then it is a little easier to accept.
Here are some links for reference for Nikon zooms. Although they are at different price points still the Nikon 28-300 is no match for the Nikon 24-70 Take a look at the border and the extreme border. So that is the tradeoff for having an all in one zoom such as the Nikon 28-300 and the HCX1000.

Thanks for that,i see you did not keep yours so you were not satisfied with it i Guess, one thing in i A mode i would think the camcorder would set itself for the sharpest video but it is similar in that respect to using manual settings with mine,My FZ1000 is sharp throughout its zoom range and the HC-WX970M has a 24X zoom and in all the videos i have watched that small consumer cam apears to give more detailed footage. As i have said for now the HC-X1000 is the only Camcorder option for me, the Sony AX100 records more detail but has less zoom,i can not get a clear answer from Panasonic UK on the subject of the Camcorders recording quality perhaps there is somone on the site who can put some light on the subject.Anyway thanks again for your input.[h=1][/h]

Intelligent Auto is pretty amazing on the HC-X1000, but it is what it is - and it's not the answer to getting the sharpest video. I used it on my very first shoot because it was on the day following delivery of the camera so there wasn't time to learn how to properly use it. And iA performed surprisingly well. However, I haven't used it since. Even though there have been times when it would have made sense to be able to quickly switch over to it. Sadly, iA mode has one huge drawback — manual focus is not possible in that mode. Not saying auto focus on this camera is any slouch. In fact, I've praised it more than a few times in these forums. But if you want to ensure getting the sharpest possible footage from this camera - and getting it consistently - the only reliable option is to use manual focus so that you're able to continuously adjust focus on your subject. Of course, that's generally true with any camera, but seems to be especially the case with the HC-X1000. Probably due to the characteristics of the lens - as outlined by Da Media Man.

You've stated several times that, for now at least, the HC-X1000 is your only option. If you've truly come to that conclusion, maybe it's time to stop thinking in terms of what you think the HC-X1000 should be capable of in terms of comparison with other cameras. Otherwise, I doubt you'll ever get any real enjoyment from this camera. And that would be a shame because, although not perfect, it's a fine camera in so very many ways.

true, mine is still not back yet,i feal a replacement should have been given on a virtualy new Camcorder, regarding iA i rarely used it as like you i use manual,it is hard though to accept the resolution aspect as it makes no sense to me why as far as i can tell every other Panasonic 4K camera and camcorder has more. But as i have said i will for a while at least.

Well i think this a poor show by Panasonic,in the uk at least, still no camcorder back, they are waiting for parts,my cam may only have been a few weeks old but this is not a new model.
Update today 28-10-205 the earliest the part will be with the repairers is the 11th of November, disgusting IMO.

The fiasco goes on,my HC-X1000 has been returned unrepaired,no parts avaiable,i now have to return the whole camcorder complete to my supplier who dont have any replacements in stock, they then have to send the camcorder to Panasonic uk for checking to get get a replacement,Panasonic have gone down several notches in my estimation.

Well... my unit which is about less than a month old apparently has either dead pixels on the sensor or some sort to dust particles on the lenses or sensor.

Thats not good,i could not get a refund due to mine just being past the 30 day return limit,i wonder if Pana have a dodgy model here or most likely more dodgy ones than there should be.

Personaly i have not but i am interested if anyone has been treated like this. The Cam was sent off on the 12th of oct, returned a few weaks later as unrepairable,so sent back to my supplier, now i still have no Camcorder,Panasonic say i have to only communicate with my retailer my retailer are blaming Panasonic.

Well i got a replacement with a new 5 year guarantee from Panasonic not my retailer, some Otter footage taken in typical dull winter conditions.

Complete replacement and not repair? What's the 5 year guarantee?

I had mine evaluated the other month and they had to replace the sensor and IIRC the lens... I haven't picked it up, been busy.

Does our camera have a Black Balance function?

Yes the origional cam was sent for repair and sent back after a couple of weeks as there was no part avaiable[it was the viewfinder that had gone]so it was returned to my retailer as they told me for a replacement, weeks and weeks past, finaly after a lot of contact with my retailer and Panasonic uk it was Panasonic who sent me a replacement with a 5 year guarantee,i only know the cam has the normal white balance options i dont know about black balance.

In order to do a Black Balance, you need to have the White Balance mode set to something other than [Ach] or [Bch]. Then press and hold the W.B. button or the multi-function dial. Setting is complete when the screen goes black momentarily and you see “BB SET OK” displayed.

I know with other Panasonic cams I've owned, like the AF-100 and AC-160, black balance was very important to obtaining a noise-free image. Not sure how important it is with the HC-X1000.

Did they atleast give you a service unit to use while it was in for repairs? Also what does the guarantee exactly cover? is it similar to the 1 year warranty?

I just got back my HC-X1000 today, they replaced just the sensor and if I understood correctly they considered replacing the lens but later found out it was just a sensor problem. I'll clear that up tomorrow since it's 8:36PM now..

I just did a Black balance for the first time ever on this camera and it seems like it did help, shadows got deeper and image looks cleaner on the LCD. I've only learned about Black Balance on the PX270 they loaned and I somehow missed that part on the X1000 manual.

No my retailer http://www.ukdigitalcameras.co.uk/?...RRZ9Bnt2g9paKtge51bkAYhVcSGk8iBkcAaAng-8P8HAQ let me down but i cant complain at the help Panasonic uk gave me,the Guarantee is similar to the 1 year one.

Ok i hope someone will please give me an honest opinion,on this short film with my HC-X1000,the cams max zoom 35mm equivalent 625 then a good quality Canon 1.5x extender so the origional recorded footage was 937.5mm the film is then given two 1.5 crops in post so what the film reach is 2109.375mm https://vimeo.com/161755189 it will have to be downloaded to watch the origional short film.the HC-X1000 does not record the sharpest 4K footage by a long shot but would others find this acceptable.
