HC-X1: Consumer division offering 3 year warranty

Just thinkin out loud here...

So for the longest time, the pro division of Panasonic (AG line cameras) extended your warranty to 3 years when you registered the camera in the PASS system. They no longer do that, which was a shame because that warranty really made the brand stand out. It inspired confidence- Panasonic was saying to me "we stand behind Our professional line". Every other pro camera division offered only a 1 year warranty.

Now the consumer side is offering a three year warranty on the HC-X1, though it appears to be more promotional (it's done via rebate form instead of PASS). Most know that the X1 is the UX180 sans the time code and SDI- and is even made in the same factory. And now the GH5 will have 10bit internal recording to a SD card for under $2k? The consumer side is wiping the pro sides' nose :)

And the UX90 seems much more "consumer" than the X1. Just seems odd.

I agree, the ux should have at least offered 10-bit out hdmi, but then it probably would have gutted dvx200 sales.

Yep.... How much you wanna bet we see a DVX200B with the new GH5 sensor and all features plus some? It would make sense from their perspective... They already spent the R&D on the body and lens... make a few minor changes, and swap out the guts and call it a "refresh" for more sales. I'd probably buy one!

I probably would too! I just can't get myself to buy the dvx200 since its a year old and all the new goodies coming out. I mean the autofocus of the ux180 is awesome and the stabilization is great too...for less money. Yes, smaller chip but my workhorse HMC is looooong in the tooth. 8 years old!!!! Still going strong, but quality wise its showing its age.
