Having problems with AVCHD in Adobe Premiere CS3

I am really frustrated right now. I am supposed to edit this thing for my brother but the files are all AVCHD and evidently that doesn't work on Premiere CS3. I NEED to edit this and export it into a high quality video that he can show to some clients. I don't know what to do bc I cannot afford CS4 or CS5 right now. I am having trouble finding info on what I can do. I need to convert this without an quality loss and I need to do it for free for a few weeks until I can buy a better program. Does anyone have any advice?

You probably should have checked your capability to edit this footage before promising your bro that you're going to edit his footage.

Anyways, you can download a trial of CS5.5 and use it for 30 days.

It's kind of like complaining that my VHS tape won't work in my DVD player...kind of...but not really, I guess.

Thank you for your input but unfortunately I did not find your opinion to be helpful. I have contacted the moderators about this and they should be contacting you shortly. Thank you and have a nice day.

A little less rude in the future.... especially to new members.

Try MPEG StreamClip (freeware) and convert to DVCPRO HD. That'll give you a very high-quality HD codec that PPCS3 can handle.

And even when you do get around to upgrading your system, MPEG StreamClip is one of the most useful tools you'll find.

Thank you so much. I am going to try that. I haven't been in school for a few years and was not expecting to have to deal with a different kind of file. I'll get back to you guys after I try it. Thanks again. :love4:

Thanks. I went ahead and downloaded the trial and installed it. I don't know why it said that it wouldn't include that ability. Everything seems to be going along well so far. I love editing but sometimes all the compatibility stuff makes me CRAZY. Sometimes I spend more time trying to make file types and different programs work together than I do trying to make a video look great.

I can't get any of the files to open in that program. Are you sure it will work with AVCHD files?

Your problem can be solved in two ways. The first one is to change your editing software from iMovie to FCP X, which can allow you to import 1080p videos via Log and Transfer. And there is one thing you should pay attention to is that you need to capture the files directly from your camcorder or copy the whole folder, including the structure info, to your HDD. The other way is to convert your 1080/60p files to AIC, which is compatible with iMovie. As for the converter, you can easily google it. I'm using brorsoft mts converter for mac, one of my colleague inreoduced to me. It is easy to use and help me save a lot of time that other converters. Besides, the converted files are great without loss of quality. You can try it out.

Give me a break...of course it's helpful. First of all, you should double check that you're able to perform something before guaranteeing someone (such as your brother, or worse, a paying client) that you'll perform it.

Second, the CS5.5 trial worked for you, right?

I demand an apology and a bouquet of roses, along with Ferrero Rocher chocolates delivered to my house -- by the moderators.....in leopard-skin thongs.

Ann, the original poster (OP) stated she was using Adobe Premiere CS3, not iMovie. On top of that, she could be using Premiere on a Windows platform and not OSX. Also, there is no "Log and Transfer" in FCPX.
