has anyone used cokin filters for ND? or other recommendations!

thanks for all the info everyone.
i really need something cheap to get by with for a couple of months until i know the camera better and get paid for the jobs i'm doing now (in lovely standard pal-cheap is good is the mantra here in madrid!)
the hitechs look good but where can i pick these things up in madrid or edinburgh. a lot of the better, not so expensive filters, seem to be sold on the internet and are not widely available in shops.
anyway, i bought the 7D yesterday and i'm facing a steep learning curve before saturday before i film my friend's wedding in the scottish highlands on saturday ( luckily having any kind of video is a bonus for them!) although i have lots of experience filming weddings, it has always been with a video camera but lugging my video camera frrom spain to the north of scotland is a no-goer as i'm traveling after the wedding. hopefully my afternoon shooting with a gh1 (dif cam i know!) along with the research i've done, will help me get reasonable images.
i might have to go with the cokins for now as i'm flying tomorrow and can pick them up in madrid before i go or in edinburgh before i head up to the highlands. i can always punt them later as i want to keep some money aside for a zoom h4n!
thanks for all your help!

if my lenses are all 82mm filter size, can the fader nd 72mm filter work with a step up ring? any loss in quality?

thpriest. don't know if your looking for inspiration but here's a wedding shot with a 7D and 5D: http://www.vimeo.com/8219603

I am amazed at how good some wedding videographers are. There are some (a lot) of really good shots in this video and the quality is amazing.

Good luck, stay away from the brides mother...

Some lenses might work with it, some might not, but they make the Fader in 82mm, so you could just get that and know it'd work with everything.

cheers chucks,
my biggest problem is going to be avoiding getting drunk! i haven't seen my mates in 4 years and the wedding will be crazy, in the middle of nowhere, blizzards forecast, a hotel for us only with tremendous whisky and highland food!
they want a video which shows what really went on! i intend to shot something memorable!

sounds like you'll be drunk before even unpacking the cam :)

That's a nice production.

What's the trick to holding focus on these flying shots in low light with these MF rigs?

good to know. Thanks! I have been using Hoya. The other day I was in the desert shooting with 1 ND8 Hoya, 1 ND8 ProMaster Digital ND, and a Hoya Circular Polarizer. I had a bad magenta cast over everything when I saw the footage at home. I'm going to have to test to see what's going on.

I use a Cokin "P" holder with a Cokin circ-pol filter for sky / water / foliage and a set of Format Hi-Tech NDs from 0.3 to 1.2, and not seen any significant colour cast. I also have a compendium hood that clips into the front slot.
But that's because I'm too cheapskate to buy the "real stuff".
My widest lens is a 20mm on a 550D (Not really very wide) and don't see vignetting.

Same here about being a cheapskate Dave. I actually have the Cokin P holder too but haven't used it since my DVX. I have recently bought a step up ring for my lenses on the 7d and was going to use some filters again such as the graduated filters and the polarizer I have for that too. In addition to that I was going to buy two ND8 filters for it but I have been reading in reviews that the ND's have a reputation for going magenta in images. It's a dissapointment because it would be so convenient to use them with the P-filter holder instead of spending an arm and leg on a 4x4 holder. I guess you get what you pay for.
