Has anyone tried these ebay SxS cards?

i own the 8GB card. no problems to date. as far as i know they are identical to the Sony brand SxS cards. SxS stands for Sony x SanDisk.

Thanks Mic,
Well I took a gamble and just bought a lot of 5 for a meagre $370USD. I'll report back here once I've done some reliability tests.

The 8GB is a good size for covering live events since catastrophic failure on any one card only means loosing around 30 minutes of footage not hours. If these prove to be decent then it's a hell of a lot more economical to get these SxS than screw around with the slower MxM solutions - especially if they prove to be genuine SanDisk and actually support over-cranking.

well, you know with the latest firmware update MxM and other SDHC combos can successfully be over-cranked as long as you have a halfway decent SDHC card, ie: Class 6 or higher.

Interesting you pointed that out, I have a bunch of 16GB Panasonic Class 6 cards that I use with my HMC150 but every time I tried to shoot over-cranked with my MxR adaptor the camera would shoot for about 8 seconds before failing with a media error. I shoot weddings mostly and I don't risk over-cranking or shooting in HQ mode because a couple of weeks ago I got a media error with my MxR adaptor right in the middle of toasts.

Hope you get paid top dollar for your wedding videos with the stress involved.

Please let us know how you get on with these cards.

Sandisk makes the cards for Sony, however its a little odd because most places list that specific part number as out of stock or discontinued for quite awhile.

It seems funny that he should suddenly have 1000 of them. They may be repackaged, or something else if Sandisk isn't doing a new run. Normally these have retailed for around $350 each.

That doesn't mean that they won't work. The seller does have a high rating though and he specifically says for Sony cameras so you could probably return them.

I'll be really interested if you give them a full test and let us know.

On my MxR with the EX1 any time I try to overcrank beyond 48fps they fail. Below that they work. I heard the EX1R handles them a little better. (No proof of that though.)

I bought a Sandisk 8gig card the day I picked up my EX1 two years ago. I've used it for everything and it has been fine. I wish I could find more of them. One weird thing....Sandisk stopped listing them on their web site quite a while ago. It's like they didn't even want to acknowledge that they ever made them.

I got one of these when B&H was selling them for 150.00. It's a straight up SxS card like any other. I will be buying at least a couple of these. I think there must have been some behind the scenes deal where they decided to try selling the cheaper ones, but changed their minds and said "Screw our customers! We want more money! Let's sell these things at exorbitant prices, they can't get around it if nobody is selling cheaper." And I bet after the deal the Sandisk versions were taken off the shelves, and now they are trying to unload them on the down low. This is the best SxS deal ever!

Tell no one...

Chad, you are making a lot of guesses and assumptions. I'm still waiting for some test results. My antenna went up when I noticed Sandisk seemed to have discontinued these a long time ago.

Sure, they could be older new stock, but I doubt Sandisk would wait that long to get rid of them. Plus, we've seen counterfeits of most types of memory and this isn't B&H selling them.

I ask anyone that's received them to give them a full test, under/over cranking, over an extended time and report how they do. Reformat them and what size to they say. Do a data write test and what speed do they say.

They may be perfect. They may be true Sandisk. They may be made to full specs. But before you whole heartedly endorse them someone needs to have a look.

OK That's fair.

Maybe write the seller, or try and get them on the phone and A) See if they are Americans, B) Ask them where they got all these SxS cards, and wee how the answer sounds. And yes, anyone who's ordered them please test and report!

I can tell you one thing, if these cards prove to be unreliable counterfeit units I'll certainly have a solid PayPal claims case against the seller because he wrote to me and actually said:
yes. it is 100% genuine Sandisk product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I should receive mine in about 10 days...

Hi,
There is an easy solution to determining whether these are counterfeit. Just call up Sandisk. Sometimes they want you to send photographs. I've done this before and got refunded by Paypal when the cards I bought turned out to be fake. (The cards were incredibly convincing down to every last detail of the packaging but the way the serial numbers were printed was wrong and they didn't work properly with high-end stills cameras).

All I can say is if these do turn out to be legit.....in 10 days timehave your browsers left on to that page so you can send out your order fast because at this price I want more than a few.

We await your verdict Evro, it is over and up to you!

The first link was to the Australian version of ebay. There is another ad on the US ebay with the same company.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sandisk-SDXVS00...290?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item563ec00212

It indicates a Calif company. It also says all sales are final. I'd get an email from the seller saying saying it is compatible specifically with the EX1, then pay with paypal AND use a credit card through paypal as they both give protections.

I'd still like to see some tests first. I only use my origninal 8 gig SxS cards for over cranking these days. I do the bulk of the shots on 16Gig SDHC class 6 and 32Gb class 10 cards with MxR adapters.

are you current on your firmware? what class SDHC cards are you using? i have a MxR unit with a SanDisk Class 10 card and since the latest firmware update i've been able to overcrank above 48fps without a single issue.

Up to date firmware, but I just received two class 10 transcend cards and haven't tested that yet. I probably should have stated the sentence in the past tense for clarity.

It was with class 6 Sandisk cards that I had a problem. In theory all class 10 cards should work and I just ordered two more 32Gb class ten cards.

The point was there is a lot less need for SxS cards now when you can have much higher capacity for a lower price.

These 8 gig SxS Cards are cheaper than my 16 gig RAW card from Hoodman. I believe that went for 95 bucks. Even at 150.00 the Sandisks were a deal.

I'm not saying its a bad deal if they are what they say they are, but I'm comparing it to Transcend 32Gb class 10 SDHC cards for $52 at B&H. I have two already and ordered two more. No issues so far, but as I said I haven't tried over-cranking on them.

I'm still waiting to see some tests on these. It doesn't mean I wont buy any.
