I am now aware the video lenses differ from photo lenses but are a lot more expensive. XL1 lenses are sold on Ebay for very cheap prices so I was wondering if anyoune had ever tried to couple one up to a GH1-2

I understand the XL1 sensor is a lot smaller so the lens adaptor would need to stand a distance from the camera sensor to fill the full frame. Other than that hurdle I cant see why a simple adaptor wouldnt work.

I`m sure I`m not the only one to think of this ???

I cant imagine the adapter would be "simple" It would need to be electronic in order to control iris and focus. Plus I dont think it's a standard eos attatchment, Although I could be wrong on that. Canon camcorder lenses for the most part L series, so if it is able to some how work, I imagine you would have a nice crisp image.

I was thinking about a simple tube type adaptor with no optics in it ....... similar to the nikon and canon adaptors where the focus and iris are manual.

yes its a 1/3 camera lens ..............but i dodnt know the issues with using it.

I imagine to fill the 1/3" it would be quite close to the sensor so simply by taking the lens a bit futher away should fill the 4/3" sensor. I am sure I am looking at this very simplisticly.

Taking some experience with 1/2" c-mount lenses into consideration, the problem with moving the lens outward are manifold:
1. You increase the effective focal length
2. You change the effective focal points of the lens, generally eradicating your ability to focus to infinity with stops in their factory positions
3. 1/2" sensor lenses typically always vignette below ~25-30mm, and require ETC mode to avoid the vignette; 1/3" sensor lenses often still vignette even with ETC

The various adapters are made in various sizes to mimic the rear-element-to-sensor distance (aka flange distance) of their respective types. Increasing this distance has the above effects.

While this may yield a pretty nifty macro lens, it might very well be useless for anything but macro.
