Any info greatly appreciated in terms of extra gear (with a very tight budget). Have the Voigtlander f/0.95, 25mm lens
Another option would be the Panasonic AG-AC160 which we also purchased, but probably is less light sensitive.
We'll be shooting exercises for physically challenged folks in a warm swimming pool.

Thanks a bunch,

Dorit

you"ll Need a wider lens as everything under water seems 25% lose than it actually is. You could bank on using the 7-14 and the 14-35 on the AF.

Obvious question ...what are you intending to use as an underwater housing?

How about an underwater housing?

There was an AF100 owner who shot surfing (classic waves breaking overhead stuff) with an overcranked AF100 in and underwater (in a housing)...

And yes, factor in the water magnification factor, on top of the "crop" (ooo... there's that word again) factor.

Duh! I guess it makes much more sense to use a cheap HD camera, yep, I think that's the way to tackle it for us. Thanks so much for the input, greatly appreciated.

Hey funnily enough i was about to start a thread on this same thing and came across the hdpro hero 2 the other day. Has anyone used it on here before? Perhaps even tried cutting it with af100 footage? As I wanted to shoot a short film with the af100, but have a few shots with the hd pro underwater?

I cut my GoPro with my AF and 7D quite often for our little fly fishing films. If I really cared to CC it to all match perfectly, I could.

One thing to keep in mind, tho, is that you will have to do a flat lens modification to the GoPro's housing to get clear underwater footage. If you look at some of the earlier videos we did, you will see a very noticeable softness in the underwater footage.

I'll be receiving my GoPro 3D housing tomorrow :) FUN little camera, and I'm sure the Hero2 tops the original in many ways.

Awesome stuff guys. Very filmic too mike! What is this lens housing you need then, can you hit me up with a link?

I got mine from Mako Spearguns: http://www.makospearguns.com/product-p/mgphl.htm

One tip: make sure you test the housing under water BEFORE dunking your camera in! Might as well be safe! Lens replacement took 10 minutes. The only drawback is that the flat lens vignettes at 720p.

A thousand curses on you Mike and I hope your lines are never tight ( for at least a day)

2012 was to be the year of "no more camera stuff" purchases.

I am involved with some fishing products and the marketing of same.

Guess I am getting out the cheque book already. (January 2nd)

Nice water and piccies.

I just got my GoPro Hero2 a few days ago and have done a couple of quick tests - nothing serious yet, but from what I can tell so far it will cut reasonably well with footage from my DSLR's.

I'm going to Fiji to shoot some surfing in a few months. Becuase all the surf breaks there are offshore, I was thinking I'd only be shooting from a boat and was overjoyed at leaving the heavy tripod behind for once. Now, I'm toying with the idea of leaving the entire DSLR kit at home as well and just shooting from the water with my GoPro the whole time. The though of not having 25kg of camera gear to lug around with me while overseas makes me a little giddy.
