F55: Has anyone put their eye up to the new OLED VF.

I did at the Culver event. It was fantastic, but the brightness seemed awful low. As in low enough it was probably turned down.

Best image I've seen yet in an EVF, and I've used the Red EVFs and Alexas. No LCOS color ghosting when your eye flicks around checking frame edges.

Image size was not too big either, like the latest 3rd party EVFs.

Will take a regulsr HDSDI input? Or does it only receive through Sony's new proprietary connection?

Thanks. I'm on the list, with you guys for one, Mitch!
You checking fitment for your new stuff! Carlos! Let us know what you think.

Sony guys mentioned not being able to fit on onto an FS700, and the possibility of retro-fitting one to an F65, so I'd suggest that means no HD-SDI connection.

Another sign Sony left F3 "in the dust" by not providing proper OEM solution for evf for this camera... "$crew you people who trusted us and bought in to our system early on, now we need new money and new suckers..."... Thank god for SmallHD, Alphatron, Cineroid...

The OLED uses the new proprietary connection. I do not know the nature of this signal so I don't know if it can be adapted for use on other cameras.

I want a better EFV as any guy here and OLED is quite tempting, but if it's any like the OLED screen of my girlfriend's phone (that got yellowish plus a general hue shift and lost contrast within a year), than OLED is maybe not mature enough for professional gear.

I sure hope that Sony has put in more effort into the new EVF than what went into your girlfriends cell phone. OLED requires some effort to look good - it's not automatic.

OLED, as an emerging technology, needed to get immediate funding to further R&D. The obvious first application was cellphones, because people nowadays rarely own them for long enough for color instability to be an issue, but if made to look good, OLED is capable of looking un-freaking-believable. A long while ago, Sony was the first to make an OLED half-HD (960x540) 11" TV that despite it's niche-ness, was fairly amazing to look at, but they stopped developing consumer OLED products a couple of years ago; good to know they didn't stop developing OLED period.

The reason for the yellow cast on the cellphone is because the blue component ages faster than the other colors, meaning that as of current technology, a calibration system needs to be used to adjust the balance over time to compensate.

Once DuPont figures out their OLED printing tech, it will become vastly more affordable and receive a 10x increase in lifespan.

I'd be interesting in checking the new VF out, though I'd be worried about it's size. I found even the standard 3.5" flip-up EVF to be small.. The F55 at the Sony event last night had a slightly different EVF on it which I didn't mind; it seemed to be a non-production model of the F55. A 0.7" OLED VF better have a decent loupe... Sony assured us that everyone loves the OLED, but interestingly half-admitted that they've been having trouble actually getting it to their events. Hopefully not a production issue.

I had an F55 yesterday - but no OLED EVF to look at ;-( Sony supplied it with the new 7" display.

Hoping the OLED lands on my desk in a few more days.....

Does anyone know whther or not these new viewfinders for the F5, F55 will work on an F3?

Thanks,

Dave Goulding

I can confirm the 7" has SDI inputs as well as the new multi-pin 3M connector.
