C200: Has anyone had the the PL Mount Option installed on their Canon C200 EF Body?

can you convert it back to an ef mount yourself or do you have to send it in to canon...?

One you have the parts, you can do the mount swaps yourself.

Canon recommends sending it back to Canon Service to have the mount swaps performed.

Most of my larger rental customers have their own techs that can do the mount swaps.

I believe i'm the client Terry is referring to as I bought my PL mount converted C200 from his fine establishment! The only note I wanted to add is I do not plan on swapping back to the EF mount myself as it's a much more difficult process than on previous Cinema EOS cameras, specifically the C300 MK II. That said, I'm already getting work specifically because of the PL mount conversion so I'm not in any hurry to pay Canon either :)

If you have access to lots of PL glass, you should definitely do the conversion.

Would love to see some images/footage Dustin with higher end, obscure or unusual PL mount glass, when you have them both in hand and have the time to shoot some stuff.

I only had one occasion to shoot some test footage with a Zeiss Ultra Prime but here's a quick reel I put together - https://vimeo.com/246687646

The camera was just rented from me for a week and once they post the video from that shoot, I'll post it here!

Overall, nice and smooth look, but I wasn't feeling the Hollywood BM 1.2 on your Bokeh with the water tower light bulbs, looked like a dirty lens or sensor but overall, pleasant halation and nice soft yet sharp. After years of owning hundreds of camera filters, other than ND, if the camera doesn't have it and possibly polarizer, I prefer to filter in post. Doing it optically can look great but if there are artifacts you miss on the camera or field monitor, you are stuck. PL would be cool if I shot narrative but for documentary, DPAF is too necessary in my world. Lots of moving subjects being shot with my camera moving, DPAF at least gives me a fighting chance of stuff being in focus ;-)

Thanks for sharing.

Fair enough, to each his own I just prefer the dirty look I guess. Keep in mind, I literally built the camera, walked out the door, shot some footage and this was the result. Just wanted to get a feel for how it felt in hand and also how the RAW file workflow would work (this was before they released the plug-in for FCPX). No prep or plan, just seeing what we could find during the day and then again at night. I definitely want to check out that Hollywood BM when I have an actor or two. I've played with the Black Promists from Tiffen and they're great but that green cast is a little much.

Anyways, I'm sure I'll have more as we have a wide array of PL glass at my work (Super Speeds, Cooke S4s (mini and full), Master Primes, Baltars, etc). I'll have to switch back to the EF mount at some point when I get some doc work but so far the PL mount getting lots of interest for rentals so I can't complain.

Thanks for checking out the video!

Hey Steven!

Sadly it is a completely different design from the C300 MK II. I work in a rental shop and have swapped the mount on the C300 MK II dozens of times and that was so easy to do. On the C200, the EF Mount is separate from the actual EF contact pin board, which appears to have a ribbon cable for installation. I consider myself a pretty advanced dude when it comes to these things, I will not be attempting the mount swap on my own.

What was it about $500 on the C300MKII? How much for a single straight swap on the C200, and then how much to swap back?

The initial swap is $1500 and then if you want to swap back and you send it into Canon, it's $500 (just the labor cost). This cost should be the same on the C300 MK II though that service was completed by my employer before I actually started working here so I can't say for sure.

FWIW, Canon told me they also shim the mount during the swap for accurate witness marks but again, I've never had an issue or need to shim on the C300 MK II when swapping the mounts.
