There is switch (inside the red square). I have no idea what it is for. Any clues?

Anyone.. anyone? Bueller.. Bueller?

Completely non-functional, as far as battery performance. It's used to mark batteries in the field, especially if you have several. Switch it to black when it's charged. Switch it to red when it's spent. That way, you don't grab a spent battery from your bag by mistake.

Not weird at all, especially when you have a charging station with a lot of batteries. When you send someone for a new battery, it makes it easy for him/her to get the right one. (As long as the person in charge of the charging station is doing their job.)

yep, thats what i was going to post. we use colored tape on top of the batt so its easier to see.

The switch was widely used on pro-camera batteries like the ones for Betacam cameras. Was very useful when you had a field shoot with a pile of batteries to keep check on as to which had been used or not.

Yeah I put a strip of blue tape on fully charged batteries and when they are used up the tape comes off. Its quick and easy, and it is simple to send people after a charged battery.
