Has anybody seen Broken?

It's got some really good extras on the disk. You can get some ideas on how to do a lot of different things. The short was okay, but I was happy with the extras.

Whether or not it is worth the purchase is sort of a personal call. I bought it because I like to support people who shoot on the DVX and hope that if I went the same route they did people would buy my film also. That being said, the extras are great, but the story itself is a bit lacking. The production value is top notch and highly entertaining, but as to whether it is right for you and your tastes... well buy it and see or see if Netflix is carrying it.

I bought it! I watched it! And Every EXTRA that came with it.

The extras are pretty decent, I think that it might be worth the money alone just to get it.

It'll also give you a good idea of what you can do with a DVX and some planning.

Those are the reasons to purchase it.

Other than that... well it's an interesting little movie.

I agree, it is good to support the indie folk. I think it was worth the money just to watch the extras. Gave me some good ideas and info. The story itself is okay. I could be wrong, but I think their main goal was to use something to show the crew's skills and then market the heck out of it. I would guess that it worked and landed a few of them some jobs.

I think that was the purpose, and it worked VERY well. Even better, they've recovered money from it by promoting their work; That's REALLY making it happen.

I hope to do the same. So, actually, I say -- Buy the DVD, if it's only to get inspired to get off of your ass and do something.

There ya go.

It's the truth, though. I mean, these guys talked about doing something... and then DID it. It's sad to say (and I'm guilty of this same phenomenon), but that's a rarity.

I'm scared poopless about trying to take on my first short film right now, and I had totally forgotten about the BROKEN DVD sitting on my TV stand. Let me tell you, it suddenly made me feel like "I can do this.".

Buy the DVD, Watch the Extras, TAke what you want from it and go out and do what they did: Be a filmmaker.

the only difficult part, for someone like me, which im sure there are tons of others, is having all the equipment, but not enough people who are compitent when it comes to filmmaking.

Visually, it looks great. Storywise, honestly I had some pretty big issues with it. Still, I'll give those guys credit where it is due, the film does look really good. Hopefully the next film they make the narrative will be equal to the awesome visuals. By the way, if you guys liked the extras for Broken, you should all invest in a dvd from another short film called Radius. It's a 30 minute sci-fi film. It wasn't shot on the DVX though so it might not be as revlavent, but for indie filmmaking, the extras are really REALLY indepth. It's a good buy, even if I did have problems with Radius' story too. :)

I brought it for the extras, but found the acting to also be excellent as was the production. I do think however that short indie films. even those with extras, should have a lower price tag.

I'm feeling that exact same hit at this moment. You can have all the equipment in the world, but it takes more than one person to create (in most cases) a "kick-ass" product, for lack of better terms.

On Topic -- If you haven't checked out Broken and don't already own a huge collection of "Guerilla Filmmaking" or "Budget Filmmaking" dvd's and books, it's worth purchasing.

Where can I find Radius at?

Also-- I too had problems with the story, but y'know-- they did what they could. I'm not excusing it, just that every story can't be the type to make your brain blow out of your ears.

Don't we all wish that were the case with our own work? =P

Broken behind the scenes is like, three hour of how to's. Someone new could get up to speed studying this dvd. Movie production is very good. Love it.

clicked on da link and ordered the "special edition" green one, I remember seeing a bluish one a while back, anyways

I'll echo what everyone else was saying, the extras were great. But I thought some of the action sequences could have been done a tad better but I think the aim for this short was the "look" and I believe they somewhat achieved it.
