Hardware for speed advantage

Current system is CS4 XPx64, AM2+ Phenom II Quad 3.0ghz, 8gb DDR2-800, GTS250-512mb.

Shoot with AVCHD, edit mostly in Full HD. Don't transcode original files into anything, use them straight on the time line. Looking for a way to get a bit more out of the system. My two options are:

1) Intensity Pro (card or USB3.0 with a new host card)
or
2) CS5 Win7x64 and a legitimate CUDA card.

The Intensity has some sweet I/O... and HDMI preview output. But I don't think I'll get much speed boost from it unless I transcode files into it's codec.... The capture functions would rarely be needed.

A new CUDA card will cost a bit more, but I don't get that much-needed 3rd monitor. Speeds will be faster for scrubbing time line.

A third cheap option is to find a PCI VGA card that doesn't block my GPU fan, or a thin PCI-E x1 VGA.. that gives me 3 displays, and I use whatever transcoder/CUDA apps I can find to put a transcoded/proxy file on the time line.

The Intensity seems like the more robust hardware purchase. Any chance of an Intensity AND a new GPU making a killer combo ?

I would buy another PC monitor and the top of the line supported GPU for CS5, a Geforce GTX285. Buy a second monitor and plug it up via the second DVI port and you will have an sRGB Monitor.

If you are going out to Rec.709, it will still be accurate, since Premiere Pro will translate all of your Rec.709 footage into sRGB to apppear accurate on your sRGB display.

If you are going out to sRGB (The web, youtube) You will be 100% accurate on that front as well.

If you are going out to Rec.601 NTSC for standard definition, it may not be as accurate, as I don't know how SD TV Color space conversions are handled in Premiere. I would recommend a DV camera with analog outs if you are going this route.

I'm already using 2 monitors for the desktop, would love a 3rd for viewing the output off the time line. Can a GTX285 use all three connectors at once?
(I've got x1 x16 and two PCI slots. The GPU and it's fan render those PCI slots pretty useless, the x1 is about the only upgrade slot I can use).

I'm looking for a budget way to get a bit of extra life off this box, I don't think I can justify a large hardware investment at this point. Looking to semi-retire from the biz within 2 months. Past year has been insane busy, I'm burnt out.

Just finished installing a new Nvidea card on my main edit box so I decided to emulate some of those ad vids where they apply all those effects and layers of video and color correction etc etc.

PPro cs5 and nvidea gtx285 (cuda) playback set to full resolution on the monitor.

6 layers of 1920x1080 default Canon files, pip with all kinds of effects applied didn't skip a frame. I couldn't even get it to say it needed to be rendered. added 2 more mts files on top still didn't make a difference. (I'll have to find some HDV around here somewhere and see what thats like on top.)

Still have to check the render/convert times but so far, wow! (maybe I'll be getting out of here earlier from now on.)

EDIT: Just applied the new Magic Bullet looks (for 64 bit) on a couple clips. THAT seemed to slow it down a lot.
