high definition timeline to dvd/encore

I'm having big issues getting my hd footage out of premiere. Usually I just make a dv avi and send it to encore, but my current timeline is 24p and of 720 resolution. That poses a problem because not all dvd players can handle progressive footage. So I got to get it to 29.97 - most people on here use adobe media encoder. I've had mixed results with this.

My big issue with media encoder is the amount of options available - I never know which one is best. I've also found that when I use media encoder, I tend to lose quality in my picture - hence why i've been using the dv avi export in the past.

I'd really appreciate if someone could shed some light on the subject for me and let me know what's the best way to export my 720p footage to encore with media encoder. I'm using cs3 and will be burning to dvd.

actually all dvd players do handle progressive footage. virtually every single hollywood DVD is 24p on the DVD. .its the DVd player settings that tell the dvd player wether it should play that back at 29.976, or as progressive footage to the TV. if you just encode your 24p footage to a 24p DVD it will play back fine on any dvd player as long as the disc brand is compatable with the player.. so just dont use cheap discs.
