It's an investment...glass doesn't go bad...and it is the most sub-rented lens here in LA....a lot of people who bought Sony F55s & REDs bought Canon CineZooms so Canon's "warm and creamy" look would help mitigate their camera's "cool & crispy" look.....

only for people with Beverly Hills addresses.......

How long have you worked in TV?

The problem with so many people that have just gotten into the game in the last five years or so(the DSLR crowd) is that they think everything should be priced like a consumer DSLR and it's related accessories. The only way they know how to react to the cost of real production gear is to think that only "rich" people can buy and make comments similar to the above.

If you really need this lens, you'll buy it. And a lot of people will buy just like they would a car: finance it. Heck, I have two friends that own the 17-120. One of them owns the 50-1000, too. Earlier this year, he and another shooter I know were prepping for a shoot on the road and in one hotel room they had 2/3 of the entire US supply of the 50-1000 between the two of them(one was a rental).

These lenses tell a story. If you have clients to pay for then these lenses will be in your arsenal. Rather than bitching about the price, one should moan about his/her business not yet reaching those heights. Love the 50-1000. I still can't afford it. With the rupee increasingly becoming toilet paper, it becomes harder and harder. :(

Cheers,
