Your g5 has an ESATA port? it's so simple a contraption that i wonder if there are other makes out there for less $. It's a cheap backup solution.

I have a USB only one from newegg for $25.
Not really hot swap...... I power it down...

And Highly recommended.

There are FW400 and I hope FW 800 and combo ones out there also.

i have 3 mybooks , 2 of 500gig and 1 350gig...

i edit via fire wire with my mac book pro , and never had problem...

almost 1 year the first one.

For the folks on this thread (or anyone else with info to share for that matter), just wondering, what's the best way to store the drives when you're not using them on the docking stations? Do you use some type of case?

I Use the static bags the drives came with and store them in a plastic drawer system we picked up at office depot. For my work flow I use all these drives (13 so far ) every week. I dont have long term storage set up.

I use the 10 drive one. You cab get them for around 100 bucks if you look around. Considering one of those gummy rubber cases is 10 bucks this aint bad.
