Hand Held Supports

Hi, Is anyone out there using hand held supports to help stabilize shots? I've got a good tripod but I need something for shooting some skiing, especially when I'm following my subject down the slopes. I'm thinking about the Opteka X-Grip or a do it yourself monopod system until I can afford something better. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

There are thousands of posts, reviews, and suggestions here - also, the subject applies to much more than the HMC, check the other areas of DVX User for hardware.

It's a huge question that deals with an exploding market of products from $15 DIY to $20k+ systems. If you're thinking DIY a google search of DIY stabilizers (and try the usual-suspect keywords like steadicam) will return hundreds of ideas and examples as well.

Check out the Halo Rig HD that is designed for cameras like the HMC150. We have had people buy them for the slopes, one was to shoot a commercial for a ski company.

The Halo Rig's are lightweight and rigid, and can also be attached to a tripod or monopod. Click below for more info.
