GX body for second camera?

I am dumping my remaining Canon body and I'm looking to get a Panasonic body for a second camera. Mostly for shooting stills while my GH4 is shooting video, but I do want to shoot some 1080p video with it.

Would a GX? body work, or do I need to get a GH2/GH3? I'm trying to save some $$$ and put it towards more glass.

A GX7 would work. It has some of the GH3 video functionality, takes the same lenses, has a built in EVF, and menu configuration items are close to the GH3. I have one, use it mostly when I need to go "light" and inconspicuous. Does great stills and very good video. It does lack a mic input and headphone output. I like it very much.

The GX1 is also m4/3 compatible but lacks manual settings for video. Video function is essentially full auto exposure. One exception is a menu option to attempt to force the camera to use 1/60th of a second shutter speed to better sync with power line frequency. Otherwise video is all full auto. I gave my GX1 to my grandson, it served me well as a "runaround" stills camera for a couple of years.

You might also look at a used GH3 body. Prices on those are surprisingly low, my almost new condition "backup" with only 128 shutter clicks only brought $750. I've seen some on sale on this site and some on mu-43.com buy/sell forum.

Yea, isn't the GH3 very close to the GX7 body in price in the USA now? If so get the GH3 - nothing is more annoying than having to switch gears because of different camera UI when swapping between camera bodies in the middle of a shoot.

I'm thinking of going with the new FZ1000. I can do 4K from a different angle, or 1080p 120fps which is a little better than the GH4 for slow-mo.
