Group Buy for HVX?

Berry, thanks for the info. I am very new to HD, just trying to understand and Find the best match of quality for my budget. It may well be that the HVX is what I'll need. I'd like to work with uncompressed HD if possible but not sure I can afford it. If not then the HVX my be a good option. Being able to disconnect is a feature I'm sure I will need at times. Can't trail a runner or do a good steadicam shot with all the extras connected. OK for studio and indoor shots but not the action shots. Definitely food for thought.

Will the Micro 35 work with the HVX?

Thanks
HW

which ever way u go it's gonna beat the living crap outta that xl1, if u wanna get serious about "film" then probably the HVX is the ONLY WAY

hey Barry (the green one, ha ha ha lmao) wouldn't andromeda work with firestore???????

Yes that is a no-hassle, no-downpayment pre-order list. Product is out for Xmas! And what a Xmas it will be!

You guys don't know how lucky you are... You have wonderfull dealers with excelent costumer service over there in the US (like Rush), we, on the other part of the globe (that's HK or specifically Macau, for me), we get cold, unprofessional and unresponsive costumer service- even from Panasonic Broadcast! Man how I would like to have the costumer support you guys have from Jan and PanaNew Zealand...

Anyway, anyone know where I can do a good preorder of the cam over here? I know a place that is asking 57000 HKD for the unit alone! That's aprox 7000 USD!!!! And you guys are getting retail at 5700 Dollars! That's about 48000 HKD, if I'm correct 1 USD= 8.1 HKD!

I know street price will be cheaper after a while (cheaper than in the US), but I have a feeling this thing will be sold out for several months, and I really want it from day one! I really need and want this camera (I have a short film ready to go, and I really want to do it in HD with the freedom of being able to do things my pace with my own camera, not having to worry about rental rates and "special care")

Unfortunatelly I can't order from you guys since I need a PAL camera... Are you going to sell the PAL model? Any suggestions?

Not a chance. The andromeda outputs its signal via a custom USB port that they add to the camera, and it needs to be chained to a computer and running their software (if I understand correctly). The FireStore reads regular DV data coming through a firewire port.

SPZ, you are probably correct on the point that this camera may be sold out for several months. I wouldn't be surprised if the factory can't keep up with the orders. In New York, the buzz is already spreading like the plague. The anticipation is brutal with folks thirsty for more information, footage, workflow setups, monitors, accessories, etc...The ENG folks are also looking at this camera as low cost HD for people in remote areas and locally of course. In the meantime, tighten up that scrip or do pre-preproduction. I hope that they give Barry the camera before it is release. At least he can do testing on it and put together another killer DVD like the one he did for the DVX. Also, it would be nice if someone can modify the HVX200 and get a 4:4:4 uncompressed signal out of it. I'm sure the storage requirement would quadriple.

Rush, is it possible to order a PAL model from you?

The HXV may be a good choice but is it the best I can do for under 10K.

We're all hoping (and assuming) it will be... by spec, it sure looks like it so far.

I don't mind having a HDD or infact a PC connected to my camera especially if I can us the TFT as a monitor. Hard to judge your lighting and compossion without a good monitor and camera mounted monitors just don't cut it.
Neither does a computer monitor...

Wonder which will project better via DLP onto a large screen. DVCProHD or uncompressed HD? my guess is Uncomp HD. But then could I afford the multi-terabyte HDD's I'll need.(about 10 or so terabytes) I've look at multiple sites today and all say 8.3 GB/min of UNcompressed 720P 10 bit HD (my goal if I can afford it)
Don't wonder, certainly uncompressed has more potential. But so does 70mm film. Doesn't make it worth the difference, practically, for us low budget folks. In your budget constraints, you're just not gonna be doing uncompressed HD. We're all hoping (and assuming) that the HVX / DVCProHD will nicely fill the gap between relatively crappy HDV and wonderful uncompressed.

Hope you don't mind me picking your brains?
Just stay away from my nose...

No sorry PKraft, PAL doesn't go through Panasonic America, but through a different division. However I can send the NTSC version just about anywhere in the world if we get a wire transfer in US funds. :)

Oh well, need the 1080i/50 version. What a pitty. Let's not forget: PAL is 720 x576 only. Would have loved to have a cam switchable between 60 and 50 fps. Hopefully some firmware upgrade will fix that at a later date.

That would be really cool! We could all finally be more able to shoot for Production companies outside the states without renting cameras. :) I paid a bundle to rent a beta for a production company that needed PAL masters...
