Hi All,
As I am new to posting in forums, I'd like to share some JPG's relating to the grid pattern noise with you that I did with a program called Rawnalyze to clearly show the pattern noise.
Would one of you who are interested in this thread please help me in figuring out a way to show the jpg's in my post?
What I did, after doing hours of research regarding this, is get a program called Rawnalyze, put the camera on a table and took a still RAW photo with my lens cap on at ISO 200. ISO 200 was an arbitrary choice, you could choose even lower if you wanted as well.
I then loaded up my RAW snapshot in RAWNALYZE and ramped up the clipping slider all the way to the right and VOILA, the noise comes out. I then pressed "S" and "-" keys at the same time to zoom out slightly (2:1 ratio) and the noise pattern was all too obvious. It's emphasized for illustration purposes, but the program itself doesn't create any noise that isn't there already.
What you will see is a bunch of noise from RED, BLUE, GREEN channels altogether on a the black image. With the program maximized, I took a screenshot of what I saw and saved a jpg of it from microsoft paint.
Then do the following:
Press SHIFT + 1 to isolate the RED channel. Print screen and save a jpg too.
Press SHIFT + 2 to isolate the GREEN channel. Print screen and save a jpg too.
Press SHIFT + 3 to isolate the BLUE channel. Print screen and save a jpg too.
Save all 4 jpg's to a CD.
I live in Toronto and there's a Canon service center out just west of the city. I took the camera in personally and explained what I saw. In my case it was a vertical banding noise issue (even in low ISO) that was extremely apparent in midtones/shadows and non-existent in highlights. I told them I should be seeing a clean image at low ISO's and asked them to calibrate the sensor properly. I gave them the DVD with the jpg proof of what I was talking about.
On the first repair slip they wrote out for me, the repair request written by the servicewoman said "Calibration, CMOS correction". The slip I got back from the service depot said "electrical adjustment, sensor cleaning".
After I got the camera back, I went out for a night shoot on a short film to do coverage shots with it. The noise issue was definitely improved, however not perfect. This time I noticed a lot of red noise in underexposed portions of shots. Once again I did the lens cap test in RAWNALYZE and the results revealed it was -IMPROVED- but NOT FIXED. Also, my playback button on the backside of the camera was crooked.
So I repeated the same tests once more, made them a new DVD and sent it in again. I have since had the camera returned and the RAWNALYZE tests (the first thing I did this time) revealed the pattern had been
The 2nd repair slip I received when the camera was returned mentioned similar wording regarding the repair. I will grab this slip when I return home and confirm the exact wording on it.
The first thing I did when I got the camera back this time was boot up my RAWNALYZE, do a 3rd round of test and compare. The issue still isn't perfect, but I will begin shooting video to see if what the camera captures is acceptable or not.
If not Canon will get tired of hearing from me until they make the proper adjustments.
For a CLEAR IMAGE and DETAILED DISCUSSION of what a 7D banding issue looks like, go here:

look at the Rawnalyze tests of a 50D vs a 7D he did. I experienced exactly that. You will see that the 7D noise conforms to many, many vertical lines. The 5D noise pattern is more random and doesn't display any patterns. In video the patterns will look horrible.
I hope this helps anyone experiencing the issue. Again, somebody plz pm me with instructions on how to post JPG's or where I can host them online, and I'll show you my proof.
Cheers All!

P.S. The entire process both times took no longer than about 4-5 business days, but I think this is due to the fact that the service center is on the outskirts of my city. It may be longer depending on your proximity. Also I did take it to them in person which reduced shipping time.
