GregWilliams2175 - BEWARE

OK: I waited to do this but I have to call him out! I paid on the 16th of FEB, he gave me a tracking number on the 17th but this was just a number as he never gave the package to UPS - A number of other persons contacted me from this forum who had the exact same issue of payment but no receipt of product. From what I can tell out of 6 people who have bought something from him only one person actually received the product.

So Greg I am sorry but after not returning my calls nor sending the product to me and others I feel that I have to call you out as a scammer. Why else would you take a persons money and not ship the product and not give an answer - why!!!!

I have taken measures to recoup my $500.00 that I sent to you. It is so sad when people like you give DVX a bad name. I will buy from others here as it just seems that people like you are the rare breed not the norm.

Cheers,

Sorry to read that - another good reason to implement mcgeedigital's idea for a feedback system.

I wrote elsewhere that people should pay a small fee via PayPal from an account *with a verified postal address* to be added to a verified buyer/seller list if they want to buy or sell via this website (if they want to be added to the list, at least, so that people can decide whether or not they want to deal with the buyer/seller), and that combined with the feedback thing would surely help put an end to this nonsense. Had you been able to refer to such a thing, Brian, you wouldn't be out by $500 right now!

Hope you get your money back.

Seems like a good idea, except someone would only have to pay a small fee to gain trust and be fast tracked to scamming someone out of thousands.

Fortunately for me $500.00 isnt the end of the world for me - I will ask the bank to get it back as it was done on the cc so i will not be out of any money as I will post it as a fraud!

The best thing I have found is to ask for a phone number.
Talking to a person, for me, is the best way to find out if they are cool or not.

You can usually tell in the course of a 5-10 minute converstaion if the person is a scammer or not.

if a seller, or buyer for that matter, will not give you their phone number via email then question why before you buy

Several users have suggested escrow.com with good reviews. From my "look see" they charge you the same as PayPal would, which IMHO is cheap security for both parties.

My2cents.

Sorry to hear how things went. I was hoping this was all resolved.

I like the phone call suggestions but that has never been a part of any of my transactions. I don't think it would difficult to fool someone anyway.

There is a common belief here that if a member is somewhat active it's a safe trade. That is a terrible idea! First of all, anybody can post anything here. It's not special to have a post count. Second, security on web forums is not especially high and passwords generally weak. It would not be very difficult for someone to compromise an active account.

Most important rule on avoiding a scam: If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Sorry to hear this. I bought one from him--seems like it took a couple of days before it shipped but I still had it within about 7-9 days of purchase (I can't remember exactly). I'm pretty sure he sells them on eBay as well, not that it makes a difference.

I have a tendancy to be hesitant in thinking ill of people (maybe it's a weakness, I don't know). I'm not going to make excuses for him but based upon my intereaction with him (I did get answers to my e-mails), I'm guessing this may be a case where he's met with sudden sucsess and hasn't yet worked out his workflow, regarding manufacture and shipping. One way or the other I'd sure like to hear something from him (here).

We have to be realists. This is a discussion forum, not a safe way to buy/sell/trade. DVX could develop an ebay-like sub-domain which could function as a safe way to keep this up. We can send our suggestions. I don't think it should be too expensive for dvxuser to build it, since there are good scripts at modest price for that. Just my two cents.

Yeah, we bought a jib from as well. We actually had his phone number so we'd call him all the time trying to find a resolution.

In the end it took about a week or two for him to get it to finally ship, then he said it was UPS' fault it would be overnighted the next day. When it didn't show up, we just charged it back and moved on. It sucked because we needed it for a project but at least we weren't out the cash.

After all of that, Greg reappeared from his very incognito state to say it has shipped and provided a tracking number for something coming here. We told him to refuse it and to just intercept them and he told us to keep them as a "gesture of kindness". We aren't sure what that was about but being this took place all after our bank had refunded our money, we figured it was to get us to sign for a package so he could present it to the bank and say our chargeback was unwarranted. That's my skeptical theory, obviously it could have been that he was just being nice but we didn't want to take a chance on it.

contexting greedpain with a "safe way" is an joke :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

hundreds of billions of $$$ gained by organized crime through greedpain are a fact!

There is no "safe way" in e-commerce!

Phone number is my surefire way. Once I get that phone number if someone scams me I can get their address, and well as call them and have friends call them 24/7. And if its a big enough burn, buy a plane ticket and show up at their door.

You will get burned from time to time but if you look at the amount of transactions here on this forum compared to the problems bad sales I say its a good bet you will get what you pay for most of the time.

Yup. This is no e-commerce site. Gotta be careful. I will remember this example if I ever decide to buy from anyone on this site....it's sad.

I finally got my money back but because he gave a tracking number it made it more difficult than normal. If you have a shipping account you can give a tracking number and not deliver the package to the carrier which was the case here!

I usualy ask for a phone # when buying and offer mine as well to make the buyer feel comfortable. I also look at their buying and saleing history by looking up their name, and last but not least i'm more comfortable knowing the seller has alot of post. all of these combined for me gives me piece of mind.

my best advice is dont deal with anyone who:

- has fewer than say 50 posts
- only posts in the marketplace

another thing. if a person has say only 20 posts but they are on several subjects and they actively appear helpful-knowledgeable. its probably a safe bet.

Is it not possible for a list of past and present scammers to be posted as a sticky? Maybe even a short description of their modus operandi. These bottom feeders tend to resurface under different names. Having information such as the area they are from etc. might help flag the seller as one of the scum bags.
