Greenscreening(keylight in after effects)

Hi guys!

Made an intro vid for our church yesterday. Was sort of pleased with the keying on this. It turned out pretty decent.

(It's in norwegian, but I just want you to look at the keying and effect work)

I'm not that pleased with the newbox but I was pressed on time and I had to make something.

Hope you like it:

Now I'm very curious what the second guy yells. Good key but I think the edges (especially on his jacket, which is really saturated) need to be feathered. Does the light on his right go away midway? Perhaps the cross's light should illuminate the left side of his face a bit.
Nice intro.

Nice piece.
I find no issue with the key.
Keylight works great, and you can tweak it easily in the interface they provide.

Since the speaker has close cropped hair, you get to avoid the fringing that boufy hair gets you.
A royal pain to deal with!

I dunno that the jacket requires additional work- it's sharp and clean.

Key magic is contained in the lighting.
Set up the foreground to light the subject normally (key, fill, bounce).
Light the background (the screen) as evenly as possible (top to bottom, side to side).
Set a rim light (ring or highlight light as it is called sometimes) off the subject on a parallel to their shoulders (one or two lights, you pick).
I put an amber or wheat gel in that light- to help with the separation from the key screen, and to null any bounce (green) that may fall onto the subject. (really helps!)

The 'box' isn't too bad- you could match it more to the properties of the background- which is somewhat pastoral and diffused.
Box jumps in and it looks out of place by the prominence it has- big black thing- boom.
No worries though, it serves its purpose.

Question- is 'vineyard' used in the same fashion in English- where grapes are grown and processed into wine?

just curious.

Hehe, it's from Family Guy.
The news guy is saying; "And now to Tomas Stavik with the weather", and then the guy (or me actually) yells; "It's raining!!!"

Yeah I'm pretty pleased with the keying... I mean.. DV footage has its limits when it comes to this sort of thing.

Yeah, I know:( And this is the sad part. Right now I don't have enough lights to illuminate the subject well enough.
+This is done in my own room, which is very small..
But our church is getting a place soon (doing homemeetings for now), so it'll be easier in the future:)

Yeah, that seems like a good idea. I just rememberd the sports news here in norway doing what you mentioned actually. I'll try that out:)

Well yeah. It's an image used in the bible:
""I am the vine, you are the branches." (John 15:5)"

Familiar with the verse, just surprised you'd use English like that.

Thanks for the replies.
Keep up the excellent work!

And no issues with working in your room to pull off this shot.
Just shows how 'powerful' this is, you could put your subject anywhere in the world like that---- from the comfort of your living room!

We're actually sort of going for an international church. That's why we call it Downtown Vineyard. We have people from Netherlands, USA, Sweden, Denmark & Norway already.. even though we're only about 30 people :P hehe
Also, we are based in Ålesund in Norway.. while none of us are actually from Ålesund :P
Most of them understand norwegian though :D

It's just everytime I work with greenscreen I want it bigger.. like.. I want the whole wall covered and I want to be able to move all over :P
+Have the lighting equipment for it..

But thanks again! :D

You want to have some real fun greenscreening?
Put greened out objects between your subject and the camera.

Sure, like a desk- but layer in a different desk (from photo or 3D program).
It's so cool.
And, as you get the feel for it- you can do some really subtle stuff; like handheld objects or devices- all the while knowing you'll be replacing it with the matte.

Takes a little more time to light- but the most time is lost figuring it out.
But it really is fun.

Uh, more space YES. More light, Definitely!!
Soon to come, don't you worry.
