Hey guys,
posted with other questions for a big shoot i am about to do. Doing a greenscreen shoot for the web was thinking of shooting 1080p I cant shoot 720p on my system without upgrades. There will be some resizing and use of 3d camera in AE. However, someone suggested using dv50 for a better key. I thought id get a better key from the downsample in 1080p. A little interested in shooting dv50 though i must admit as the render times in AE there will be a lot of filters, should be a lot faster with the smaller frames. Any thoughts guys.

You should be able to get a really nice key out of DV 50. I've done a number of times for a variety of clients and it has worked well everytime. I'd advise shooting 30P. Why go through the extra complication of 1080 downsampled for the web?

Hm,
if you have the processing power I´d do all the production and postwork in DV100.
The 1080p frame will be higher compressed than the DVCpro50 one, but the extra resolution seems to help with the edges when keying...
I will do extensive greenscreen work as soon as our studio is finished and we´ll record in HD whenever possible.
Also, the clips i´ve compressed from DV100 to flash look far better than the ones originating in DV50, better means sharper in this case...
Anyhow, DV50 is used a lot for keying when budget is of concern, so you´ll be on the save side anyhow...
And shoot progressive of course...

I did a greenscreen job for a large corporation and the person putting together the video wanted it shot as standard definition. I had my doubts but did it anyway on DVCPro 50 format.

Before shipping it off, I loaded into After Effects and did a composite test with Keylight. The results were far better than I'd expected. Very good, in fact. Enough chroma resolution to actually key the woman's wavy hair without any unwanted artifacts.
