Green / Yellow tint on LCD?

It's funny, our AF100 LCD's look very similar to a BT-LH1700--same green bias. This has always driven me nuts, but the 1700 is as close to the on-set standard monitor that exists at this point. They do not match any other monitors we own, so it's got to be some kind of Panasonic thing. I much prefer our TV Logic and Flanders Scientific monitor colorimetry.

It's harder to see the AF100 LCD bias with color bars vs. a neutral flat field of white or gray, and it's certainly evident with flesh tones. The fact that the LCD looks different than the EVF makes it clear that something's not right in color land--it's not pixel peeping, it's pretty obvious.

Hey Dino

With the same Monitor ( and in PAL - land) we use a fractional compensation by using the "Phase control" ( subtle).

With flesh tones and the shot of the eggs in my grabs ... we added 100 k warm color temp to the camera on top of our monitor "adjustment".

Note: We did not measure the color temp of the lamps ( which we should have for proper methodology).

My conclussion is that the Panny AF100 ( and the HVX) has the fraction of green (typical of Panny) and that it requires a slight "adjustment" to compensate.

On set ... we call it the "Japanese eyes syndrome" ( similar to Japanese ears)

The bars are perfect as reported consistently. Its the WB and color temp in the image acquisition stage.

Easly fixed.

Yes, I adjust phase on our 1700 routinely. I don't think the camera has a problem with color rendition, except for some overexposure and underexposure conditions, it's just the LCD panel on both AF100's.

Rather odd that HD SDI, a digital component signal has Phase control.
I used analog component(Betacam) for 20 years and the phase control on every CRT monitor never affected anything--phase is for composite signals.

Well, only you can judge how much green you have. My question would be -- would a normal and reasonable person, with no prompting, look at your LCD and say "holy cow, that's green"? If so, you may have a problem. I've had the AF100 in front of dozens of folks, and nobody has ever yet said that the LCD is green. I think there's a general acknowledgement that there might be a minor green tint in the LCD, but from my experience with several of these dating back to September and IBC, plus the Osaka group, plus "Verse", plus attending an open house at a dealer here and seeing dozens of people coming in and checking it out -- nobody has ever said "why is this LCD green?" Nobody. Not once.

I think it's a case of "if you pixel-peep it, you might see a little bit of green that nobody would ever be likely to notice". And if that's the case, then sure, that's normal. If yours deviates substantially from that description, to where you're seeing a big green shift, then you should probably have it looked at or compare it against someone else's at least.

Just looking at the LCD, yeah for the most part I wouldn't say anything is wrong. It's only when you look at both the LCD and the EVF that you see the difference, and for me it's clear as day. Again, with bars on they both look pretty identical, but when you switch back to picture and look at a white or beige wall, holy cow. Enter the matrix on the LCD in comparison.

"In Comparison to the EVF" being key here.

as well with a calibrated marshall monitor.

The color bars look similar, but you'll see Yellow is much more kaki looking on the lcd.

It has been address in another thread. They are aware, but for the most part don't consider it an issue ( state so in the manual as well )
It would just be nice to see some kind of user adjustment of color balance in a future update.
