Green Screen?

Does anyone out there have any raw footage (24f or 30f) shot against a green screen? I recently did some tests with a sony fx-1 and was not able to pull a very clean key. I know the a1 is supposed to have better hdv compression which should help out with compositing.

Nope, HDV has the same color space which gives you similar performance and the A1 use the same 15 GOP structure as the Sony. It depends on whether you can light the green screen evenly; that'll give you good results with the FX1 and the A1.

Part of the problem n vitro may have had with the fx1 HDV footage is that it is interlace HDV 4:2:0, which can be harder to work with, in addition to the fact that fx1 HD is noticeabley softer.

The advantage of 24F HDV is that it is progressive 4:2:0 recording, which anyone that knows keying will tell you that progressive material is much easier to work with. And Canon's MPEG encoder is simply better.

Also, although it isn't officially known, I'm pretty sure 24F is 12GOP, not 15.

Thanks Elton! That is what I had heard too.

Does anyone out there have any footage? I can't believe no one on this board has tried to do green screen work.

i've tryed it, and will use it on the adfest commercial.. the key is to light your greenscreen right, that is important to get a clean key. I use the chroma key function in sony vegas 6 and it works pretty good, but i miss the feather function in premiere/after effects..

My favorite keyers are Keylight or Primatte in shake... I used Keylight last week.. Couldn't get a usable key in Final Cut.. brought it in to shake, used those nice 32 bit keyers and was able to get a nice, clean alpha channel.. They make keylight for after effects as well.. God I love shake

I recently shot about 20 hours of greenscreen footage as 1080/24F for music videos with the A1 and so far I'm getting good keys using the Final Cut Pro software.

I'm still just in the rough edit stage of one video, so I haven't done the final tweaking, but it looks great.

sorry no footage... but... yup lighting is key!! get it?? really... it's all in the lighting. light it evenly and it will decrease the key bleed on the subject.
