Green Screen + Canon HDSLR + 1 WEEK + 28 Bands = 35 Live Music Videos

During one week this past October I invited 28 bands down to Seaside Lounge Recording Studio to film a live green screen music video with me. I ended up with 35 music videos and NEW live audio resulting in 1 terabyte of footage. I am here to share, discuss, and help anybody planning on; shooting GREEN SCREEN, using CANON 5D & 7Ds, L GLASS LENSES, managing LARGE AMOUNTS of DATA, and using AFTER EFFECTS to KEY and MASK there subjects.

The music video series launched in December, two videos are up thus far. If you like it please share, and please send me your thoughts. All behind the scenes were shot on HVX 200

Been browsing and realized I can embed video. Here they are. Let me know what you think. If I could do it all over again, I would do it completely different.

Here's a brave soul! I read a lot of people saying HDSLR and green screen don' mix, but you did it! I'm curious to know what you would do differently?

It was some good green screen. But dont let your subjects where stipes when shooting with the DSLR. You know why..lol

Hey nukeage. I knew nothing about gren screening until I decided to take this project on. Big mistake shooting 28 bands on green screen only to learn afterwards all the things that could have cut my work load exponentially.

1. More space is needed to control spill
2. The tracking marks i put on my green screen are abundant over abundant and non strategically placed. If i did it again I would set up my angle and then position 4-5 markers that would not interfere with my subject. I spend days upon days removing those damn markers from around peoples face, hair and body.
3. When shooting handheld in the future I will treat the actual green screen and tracking markers as the subject. Obviously keep focus on the talent, but move the camera around always with those markers in mind in order to save myself time on impossible tracking issues

4. I have heard of despill spray I could have used. I have no idea if it works but things like the cymbals and drums, guitar, and the metallic glittery amp spill green like a mother.

Good luck on your green screening endeavors.

Drew

New Green Screening Music Video

New Green Screening Music Video

This is the first green screening video where I have used video footage as the background. I had to composite 8 different shots together to make the background, because I did not measure distances angles or record what lenses i used. And a composite video with 8 separate videos in it is hell on my comp. Not my favorite as of yet, but others seem to like it more than the rest.

here is the newest 5d/7d green screening effort. someone had mentioned that an hvx would be a better option for keying, but in all honesty i dont believe it is after keying all this canon footage. check it out. 1, 2, 3 is the band theyre great!

Great pointers! Nothing like hearing from people who learned it the "hard way" . . . (I know, I've done it, too). Thank you so much for taking the time to spill some lights on this subject (oops, did I say something wrong?) Now I'm gonna enjoy the rest of your clips.

lol that guy's chest is gone

btw, Oh my GOD at that lion fight in the first video

The first one and the last one are my favorites. Is there anyway to make it so their hair looks less stiff/rotoscoped? I've never greenscreened before but can you feather a bit when greenscreening?

newest green screening with dslr battle. this one was harder than all the rest. this was the first band in the series, so there were literally a hundered markers on the green screen for tracking. had no idea what i was doing. could have used 8 strategically placed markers and done in thirty minutes what takes me weeks.
