"Green Means Go" somewestfilms

but come on now: 49th out of 58! What the hell!
one thing to consider is the narrow margin between most of the final scores.
They usually have a point 1 or less than point 1 gap -- lots of them are as close as a thousandth of a point!

if you rounded it would look more like this:
1 1st
6 tied for 2nd
10 tied for 3rd
27 tied for 4th
13 tied for 5th
1 6th

that's 40 films out of 58 right in the middle!

so it might not mean that DVXuser members or retarded ... or that Grean Means Go was not a fine film. But that it was a very tough call between 39 other films for the 4th or 5th place spot.

I'm gonna post my adjusted voting sheet in the "And the Winners Are" thread

Yeah, good way to put it Jack. This film was funny, and I enjoyed watching it. I don't think that you need to slam the entire community because your favorite film wasn't ranked higher.

I think that baddassmofro has been a pretty supportive guy -- my point was more that there were a few films that bubbled up as Barry puts it but that there were lots of good films, Green Means Go, being one of them and one of my favorites, and when it comes down to thousandth of a point being the distinguishing factor, a lot of elements can come into play, and not scoring higher doesn't mean that a film is a worthless pile of poo. In fact it could be a quite good pile of poo (like GReen Means Go) and not stack up.

but having said that -- I would be pissed if my film or a film I just adored got 48th place.

I had a similar reaction when the Zombie flick about the little girl and her zombie didn't crack the top 10 on the last contest. That was one hilarious F'in movie. ;)

That said, I don't assume it's because you guys who voted are all cliquey, self-congratulatory crack-heads. And even if I do, I don't shout it out for the world to hear. ;)

seems like that's exactly what you did ... so which is it?

maybe this forum is all about cliques, or maybe some of you just need to remove the corncobs from out of your asses

maybe you should stop using maybe's and commit to view point

when I kind of deflected blame away from you in my last post, it was because I hadn't read your post in a while, but now that I look at it again, what you said is pretty clear and it does suck.

I agree that this film was technically better put together than some films that ranked higher than it -- even better acted with a better script and we all concur on the entertainment value -- but ... you can say that without s h i t t i n g on the rest of us.

Do you think maybe ... just MAYBE ... this film might have ranked a little lower due to content. Not saying I agree with that, but its a common phenomenon not particular to this forum. I would have loved it if SouthPark Bigger Longer Uncut had recieved an oscar nod for something other than best song ... but not in our lifetimes. Same was true in Ancient Greece, the low comedies or Satyr Plays were not seen as as important as the Tragedies - the centerpieces of the festival, even though they were some of the raunchiest funniest things ever.

Are the users of this site completely on crack!? To be completely honest, I didn't figure this film would be one of the winners, seeing as it came just so far out of left field, but come on now: 49th out of 58! What the hell!

Sure, this film wasn't the most polished, but it was a fun film to watch, certainly much more fun and creative than some of the others that I checked out on this site. I don't know, maybe this forum is all about cliques, or maybe some of you just need to remove the corncobs from out of your asses and grow a sense of humor, but to rank this film among the bottom dredges of the festival, that's bullpoo poo. I think you all need to seriously spend a little less time patting your buddy on the back, and a little more time re-evaluating what good filmmaking really is.

I agree with statement # 1.

Statement # 2 on the other hand...
The creativity is there on GMG, there is no question of that. Sure it's fart jokes, but they work and the GMG folks made them work with a nasty style. There were several areas of the film to be judged. There are several people who when the distance on their films and the quality of their work really shows. I hope that many are on the site to get the most out of their DVX100s. This technical learning came through in many of the films, but IMO, not in GMG. It had the writing and the acting to make me laugh. The tech side of the film was a little too green. GMG folks will get better in time, no doubt. They were in my top 10, but only for the writing and acting.

Remember that "Good filmmaking" encompases all aspects of film.

I would venture to say that some of the "corn in the ass" folks feel the same way.

Err, Jack?

That post wasn't from me. That was "badassmofro". This is the second time, like, today that you've made it seem like I was being a dick when I wasn't. The first time, y'know honest mistake, what I said was kinda confusing. This time you actually cut and pasted someone else's post and and stuck it in a quote-box with my name on it. Are you trying to tell me something here, bud?

Yep, it is from him... blam!

Thanks, Briceman.

I don't really think Jack's intentionally trying to screw with me here, but, y'know, he's an increidbly talented guy and well respected around here. It's a little unnerving when someone far superior to you calls you out by mistake twice within 24 hours. ;)

I fixed the quote above ... sorry again :(

what the hell?
what else did I do?
Sorry? -- I have nothing against you -- really

... oh wait your talking about the comment in the "and the winners are" thread ...

that's why I asked Z-Dog "you're not really saying ... yada yada yada ... were you?"
I was hoping I wasn't reading you right on that one, and I wasn't

not that I think my opinion matters that much, but since you seem to think so I changed my signature for you :)

sorry -- moving is stressful / confusing -- that's my excuse:engel017:

Hey, no problem. I can just get touchy about being falsely accused of things. It all goes back to my childhood. Something about my sister, a banana, and a microwave, and then me getting spanked for it. It's fuzzy, I've blocked out the details. ;)

And HA, thanks for the banner change. I would've thought everybody knew that by now, but it can't hurt to be reminded. ;)

And yes, that's another joke. I think I'm going to call them out very carefully from now on. Maybe speak in shorter sentences. Less syllables. Like this.

That was another one. :)

I here ya -- you should drop by the "Things Human Beings Can Type" store and pick yourself up a "(" a ")" and a "j" along with a "k".

Now you have to assemble them yourself, and i don't have time to go into the details, but once they are all together they look like this "(jk)"

You can just stick that on the end of sentences and then people will know you are joking :)

oh ... and that was a smiley face -- they can be useful in establishing a jochular tone as well -- but we'll save that for the advanced class (jk) :)

I actually use a *lot* of winky smilies! Lots! They just don't seem to go all graphical a lot of the time. Which, actually, I prefer. Maybe it's just me, but I'm bright enough to put together the fact that a ";" plus a ")" serves no standard grammatical purpose without being hit over the head with a big yellow bouncy thing.

;)

And I won't even further hijack the thread by announcing my departu--

Ah. Damn.

But, seriously, pretty funny movie, some classic moments, some clever stuff. If it's any consolation, fart jokes never do well with the Academy, either. ;)
