Green Lantern

This piqued my interest enough to read a bit more into this film. Ryan Reynolds says, "It is an origin story to a certain degree, but it's not a labored origin story, where the movie begins in the third act. The movie starts when it starts. We find out Hal is the guy fairly early on, and the adventure begins." Well, I'm sold; this is the one superhero film I bother with this Summer.

Ok just saw it and forget the reviews, it's not that bad at all.

I liked it a hell of a lot more than Captain American, a lot more fun at least.

Yeah I guess it is a CGI fest but that's to be expected given the story of Green Lantern.

Go see it.

I agree, much better than Captain America. Actually was expecting much worse.

Ryan Reynolds wasn't bad in it but I don't think he really gets there when it comes to those more emotional scenes. Definitely pulls off the funny, cool (but not pretencious) guy as he has before.

Oh and Peter Sarsgaard was f%^king amazing! That dude is so good, brilliant. He really has a bit of John Malkovich in him.

What did you think Sergio?

I liked it! I feel like it was a good summer actiony movie. Better than some drivel that's out there for sure. It definitely could have been better, and probably won't get a sequel which is a tragedy considering how AMAZING it would be to have Mark Strong play Sinestro turning bad...

I kinda feel like at some point they hit their CG animation budget cap, and then had to try and get to the end anyway. It's not like this is Avatar where they'll spend whatever it takes to get it right. Ryan Reynolds was solid, even great at points. The script was tolerably good. The scientist part was what weakened the movie though despite it being well acted. It just added too much to the mix. We have a hero that should be the focus, NOT a baddy that you barely give enough screentime to try to have the audience feel sorry for him. A simpler plot line, and a more direct focus on Hal's personal development would have made an EXCELLENT movie.

Couldn't agree more.

I actually saw this a while ago, I think it came out earlier over here.
What I liked about this film was that, and I had the same feeling with Thor, it was such a difficult thing to pull off, with the amount of characters, the need to explain the "Universe" where the characters exist, the ludicrous (well, which superhero movie isn't?) premise of the ring, etc, that somehow they really did a competent job with this. Its not the best superhero movie ever, but it was entertaining, and the casting was well done. Ryan Reynolds was a pleasant surprise, I agree that in the more emotional scenes he could've done better, but not by much, since due to the nature of the story, which crammed so much of the Green Lantern Universe concept in it, it let too little time to develop the emotional depth of the characters. But I really was expecting a train wreck with this, and it somehow worked for me.

SPOILER

What didn't work for me was the "after the credits" shot. Talk about out of nowhere, out of character ( I know this happens in the comics, but in the film nowhere was there a hint of "that" happening) inconsistent development!
