Green Lantern

Exactly, why oh why do they insist on re-telling the origin story of characters that pretty much everyone knows.
Because the character you see on screen is not the character you saw on screen the last time and it's not the character you read in the comic book.

It's an adapted version of the character and with the origin story you set up the rules for the newly adapted version.

For instance, without a new Spider-man origin story, if they choose to abandon the organic webslingers and don't do an origin story, the film will suddenly not make any sense to millions of visitors and they won't like it.
Also, these movies are aimed at little kids, and a lot of them might not be old enough to have seen Raimi's spider-man.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK worked because they had a short origin montage during the opening credits and because it could be seen as a sequel to either the TV-show or the Ang Lee movie.

As for Green Lantern, nobody knows who that is.

Maybe I should have higher expectations, but I thought this looked pretty good. I mean, it's a trailer as easily as good as the first Iron Man trailer. I like the take on Hal Jordan, it's not terribly accurate to silver age Green Lantern. The character seems more similar to the reboot Green Lantern after Emerald Twilight (I'm forgetting his name).

Entertaining popcorn flick.

My thoughts exactly. I'm a bit surprised how disappointed everyone seems to be. Mind you it is a bit campy, and the last part of the trailer made it look rather aweful with some cheesy dialogue, but it looks like it could be a fun film.

I mean it's a superhero movie for crying out loud.

This movie looks like complete and utter ****. The trailer starts off the exact same way as Iron Man. Hot girl. Corny one liner. Rock music. Intro. AND they were too lazy to do their own text? They just copied Dark Knight and changed the color of the smoke.

The suit looks like garbage. Why CG a suit? The mask looks atrocious. Green Lantern is one of my favorite characters and it looks like they're raping him just like Gambit, Deadpool and Wolverine (though Aronofsky should bring Wolvie back to glory).

Sure. It doesn't seem any better or worse than the 10 million superhero origin story movies that have come before it. But for the people who've already seen the 10 million superhero origin story movies, this isn't being sold in a way that makes most of us care. Not that I'm jaded, but I've seen it enough.

It's a mass market movie... Of course they are gonna be unoriginal with the trailer. Why take any risks in the trailer? Give a laugh, a cute girl, some action effects scenes, "the Island" sound track (lolz, ive seen this more than once), and a final witty remark at the very tail end of the trailer. They have trailers down to a science and it blows.

I have to disagree about the logo and CG suit. The general greenish effects have looked great to me so far. That was a huge question going in, what would the ring stuff look like? And I think they nailed it. I would imagine the GL suit would glow, as it is "from" the ring, not actual clothing. The CG suit is new and impressive graphically. I think I like the idea I'd it pans our visually.

Doesn't appear to be ground breakingly different, but for me that's ok. I'm just stoked to even HAVE a GL movie to look forward to!

I had zero expectations when I saw this trailer and it looked terrible to me. It looked like a joke.
I'm still not sure if they're serious?

And yes, the suit looks awful! I won't be going to see this one.

honestly Reynolds isn't that bad of a choice, it's just he's being well him in the movie if he acted then maybe it wouldn't be so bad.... not sure if he has "acted" in any movie.

I'm not sure it will suck, it's just a very high possibility, hey they got Killowog in there Sinestro and the guardians so I'll enjoy that, it's just I have been hoping for them to work towards a justice league movie and it's looking worse and worse as each new movie comes out. but my comments on the origin story are very nerdy and specific, it's that he see's the crash I wanted him to be ripped up in a training pod and brought to the crash site by the ring, I know who cares right. The main issue I have is with the redesign of the ring and battery, which goes along with the not changing the fundamentals of a charaters origins. You have decades of source material to work from why erase it all by changing the origin story. My other main issue with this is origin stories are what set up the character their needs desires and motivation if you change the origin you change the character. Now this movie and character are not the biggest case of that but that is where my point stems, just seems far to campy to me but we'll see as this is just a trailer which can be very deceiving.

here's to hoping it's much better than we are giving it credit for, if not then we'll all have to wait a little longer till I can get my DC reboot movies finished and then an epic three part Justice League movie...... ah if only that were the case.

have a good one and keep on dreaming.

ps. and I don't remember the specifics on it but despite coming from the ring the suit did not glow at least in the pre 2004 GL comics I have read haven't been up on the new ones so who knows what they changed.... movies tend to like to steal from the new and not yet cannonized comics yet another anomaly in comic movies.

I thought he showed some range in Adventureland. That's about it though.

4 minute extended trailer. This looks better than the first trailer but I'm still not sold on it. Too much sugar glazed CGI candy for my taste. And there's something vaguely silly about the whole affair. But I'm sure the young folk will differ.

Yeah, instead of playing a smug douche who gets the girl, he plays a smug douche who doesn't get the girl...I hear his performance in Buried is pretty good, though.

He played a douche who used smugness to cover up a broken vulnerability. I thought that film was great all around. A very emotionally honest film.

I'm actually really impressed by this trailer and close to being sold on seeing it. I'm just so bored with these superhero origin films, but this one seems to be selling a very distinct experience. Or WB could be trying to sell a very different film than it actually turns out to be...

I love Reynolds.

Not a super hero fan per se, but i think he is a solid talent. I'd like too see him tackle more serious subject matter though. This looks okay, but again, not a super hero fan.

I think this looks better than Thor, but Captain America is the one that I most want to see of this summer's superhero films.

I do really like the retro-sci-fi vibe that Green Lantern seems to have in this trailer.
