Greatest Uncut Steadicam Scenes Of All Time

Most of you have probably already seen this one:
This wasn't from a film but a live broadcast. Here you have the op on a segway, then jumping off before it hits a ramp and then doing circles around the talent while running backwards while zooming and framing dutch angles:

That is definitely up there on my list of most impressive shots - not for the shot, but for the guts required to try it.

Handsfree (Segway) stepoff.
Jumping with the rig.
Backwards circle roundy-roundy.
Running.

All considered complicated (and risky) maneuvers; not just from a shot point of view, but also operator safety.

To do them all in one combination is wild.
To do it live on TV is insane. - not to mention it's the Eurovision Song Contest ... which is bigger than the Superbowl for TV audience.

Anyone mentioned Atonement yet?

One of the best shots in my book -
A continuous 5.5 minute by Peter Robertson using a 50 pound camera/stabilizer rig, covering approximately a quarter mile on sand, steps, and various obstacles all to the choreography of about 1300 extras.
Oh, and all this while pulling focus.

Guess I need to order it on NetFlix or move to Germany.

I do miss Germany...

Bah, I can't find it.

I'll just get it on NetFlix. I have a pocket of time opening up here soon - for once in a long while - that I'm going to try to fill by turning my living room into a theater and watching as many great movies as I can. Atonement's one I've been wanting to see for a while, so I'll check it out.

I'm not at all surprised to find all of the mentions I had in mind already here:
Opening shot of Boogie Nights
Longest take in Magnolia
Longest take in Children of Men

Pretty much, any PTA movie... haha. Even some great long takes in Hard Eight, around the casino and outside the motel (after the "big incident").

a touch of evil ... goodfellas ... wag the dog in the studio/kill bill ... i guess those are my choices

I'm shocked nobody mentioned the 5.5 minute shot in Atonement by Peter Robertson.

"Most memorable scene is a 5 1/2 min shot of wounded and demoralized British soldiers stranded on Dunkirk's beach in 1940. Filmed in one continuous shot with a steadicam cost $2.3 million to set up ,1000 extras. The camera takes in a phalanx of horses being shot, burning army vehicles,a smoldering fairground .a beached boat with slashed masts and out of the water, some of the 700 or so ships that would eventually save the Allied troops."

I love the opening scene from The Birdcage. A combinaton of a helicopter shot, (smooth disolve) then into the nightclub, following Robin Williams around.

Also, an old Richard Gere flick, The Cotten Club. Good opening sequence from the street into a nightclub.
Hmm, I'm seeing a trend here.
