Greatest Uncut Steadicam Scenes Of All Time

how could I have forgotten this,

the 10 minute rape/beating scene in which Monica Bellucci plays the victim in Irreversible:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290673/

in fact, the whole movie is made out of around 10 steadicam/handheld/crane takes, with a few invisible cuts here and there apparently...

How could you guys leave out HALLOWEEN, the opening scene where young Myers walks into the house and grabs the knife to walk upstairs and start his reign of terror only to have terrible sequels happen.

I asked a friend about the "Children Of Men" shot. It's 8 minutes long and was three shots cut together. Still, that scene rocked my face off. I loved it when the blood spattered on the lens.

The Children of Men stedicam sequence was amazing. put together, it all flowed so well. In Secret Window, the opening sequence is very impressive too. It starts with a crane shot outside the house and comes in through a closed window in the second story of the log cabin. I dont think it had stedicam though..

Hey Guys,

I'm going to put my vote in for the restaurant scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Although not necessarily the longest timewise, it is arguable the most technically difficult shot ever done. At least two crane step on/off's, wild walls coming in and out, and a sprinkle of dutch make it a simply amazing shot.

You all have hit on a good number of others. Please feel free to spend some time on my SteadiShots site. If I don't have something you're thinking of, please click the "Contribute" button and suggest it. The library of shots is growing constantly.

By the way, there was no Steadicam in "Children of Men". Nonetheless, the shots were no less amazing or physically demanding. Big congrats to George Richmond for the work there.

Best regards to all,
Afton Grant

Also, who could forget Garrett Brown's immaculate Steadicam licks in The Shining (especially the maze sequence where he had to walk backwards into the actor's footprints in the snow).

Experienced Steadicam operators advise newcomers to the trade, "If they mention The Shining, hang up."

I love that shot.

Yeah Sean of the dead where he walks from his house to the store and then back when everyone is dead, thats a great steadicam shot.

In Raging Bull, when Deniro enters the arena to fight against Marcfel Cerdan for the title he has always dreamed of ... Truly amazing !

In carlito's way, when Sean penn enters the prison to see mr Taglilucci. The camera is so far, it's like a helicopter view getting closer and closer to sean penn.

The "and then he kissed me" sequence when Ray Liotta enter the copacabana from the back door in "Goodfellas".
There is a very good one in Hunger, the german movie from Steve Macqueen.

Where are the cuts in the Children of Men sequence? And which sequence are we talking about...the attack while they're in the car towards the beginning of the movie? Or when they are running through the war-torn town at the end?

Not saying I don't believe you, but I really wanna try to find those cuts!

I have to go old school and go back to the shot that introduced the world to the steadicam, the migrant camp shot in Hal Ashby's "Bound for Glory", done by the inventor of the Steadicam, Garret Brown. It is combination crane and steadicam shot. It is my understanding that it was shot after the shots from "The Shining", but released first. That whole film is an amazing job of cinemotagraphy and won an Oscar for DP Haskell Wexler.

I second the nods for the Coppacabana scene from "Goodfellas" and the shot(s) from "Children of Men".

The shot in The Shining that follows Danny riding around the hotel on a Big Wheel.

Every PTA film has great steadicam shots:

The opening shot of Boogie Nights, a 3+ minute shot that introduces every character in a night club.

Sydney/Hard Eight, Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love have a number of great steadicam shots throughout.

The shot in There Will Be Blood during the gusher sequence when Plainview carries HW to the mess hall.
