Great newspaper photos

not necessarily a 'great' photo, but I'm always interested in photojournalists achieving something expressionist under strict rules, especially when it might form a connection to the broader story they're telling

the win goes to the protestors, but still I think it's well-framed

Russian tanks took part in drills in Russia’s Rostov region near the border with Ukraine this week.Credit...Associated Press

This is more what the thread was supposed to be about: images that I like texturally/compositionally in the abstract, more like a painting, rather than images that draw power from the events depicted. obviously tanks have symbolic meaning, but it's not like wow look at that moment

This thread includes admiration for composition and lighting, but you also have to tip your hat to the humans' effort in gathering and creating that visual above (although I'm still more blown away by those AI drone lighting shows that create a bunch of stuff at night).

is this photo genuinely creepy or just creepy to me because I'm not a member of their group

I was a member of that "creepy group'. When I was around 13, I cut out a large photo of Leonid Brezhnev from Izvestia and painted a Fu Manchu onto it. My dad got really scared, ripped it into pieces and then burned it with his cigarette lighter.

But I am pretty inured to the whole thing now. I dislike all of them. I avoid all of them. Even if they were done by Leni Riefenstahl herself.
